I hope we're all on the same page. Sometimes, we're too close to the forest to see the trees. The world has alot to learn about Ireland and the troubles. Likewise, Ireland has lots to learn about the world (and how it sees, supports or denies the troubles).

Paddy... looking forward to your site!

Well done
Written by patrick. (23/12-2002)
Well said Charlotte, The same is true in the states. The media sees things the same as you just explained. Therefore, the people beleive what they hear and read. I am in the process of starting a new webpage. Something that will explain the whole truth about what is actually going on in Ireland. I will have links going to it from my other sites. Thank you Charlotte and Thank you Brian for helping me understand. Viva Le Ireland Patrick
What the world thinks
Written by Charlotte. (23/12-2002)
If I talk about Ireland to my friends I have two things to do :
1st : Show them that they have a lot of false ideas
2nd : tell them about the truth.

The 1st point is the most difficult one. Here in France, if we watch our tvs and if they talk about the North of Ireland (the so called Nothern Ireland), here is what we are going to hear:
"It's Catholics VS Protestants. The IRA are terrorists and they are bad. The IRA side with the Catholics. Therefore the Catholics are bad. And, the poor young British soldiers got caught in those sectarian fights : they're only trying to maintain peace in this point of the globe."
So I have to explain : no it's not this way.
And it's really difficult to make them understand. Indeed, why would they trust me more than TV, than the newspapers and than what everybody thinks?

So, take care what you show to the world. Take care not to say or do anything that could be misinterpretated. Take care to show in a simple and clear way what is your cause : people forgot it for long. They don't know why you're actually fighting for. They just think you're fighting over religions.

I do my best to tell them the truth. But I can't take the whole world out of their mistakes.

BigPat,

I've left myself open to misinterpretation. I am definitely not denouncing a damned thing. At least, not violence. Ripping some bastard's intestines right out of his ass, and doing it in front of his wife and children is something that may need doing. I'm not arguing that point.

I'm not about the damned revenge, though we need it. I'm not out about any cease fire whatsoever. I don't disagree that anything we've gotten, we've gotten because we've been a force to reckon with. Just like the horse swats the gnat on his arse, we've made England recognize us. If you're happy with that, so be it.

I say again, I'm in favor of sticking a fucking stinger missile right up the horse's arse, OK? But, you quoted me as denouncing "MINDLESS" violence. I hate the word "denounce". It sounds so weak, so filled with fear. The word "mindless" speaks volumes. It means action without thought. I'm preaching strategy. BIG strategy. Not taking out a few uniforms on some corner in Derry. I want the fucking country back. I want to pull together whatever resources we have to to make it happen. The snipers and the nail bombs have gotten us this far, but it's mindless and foolish to think it will take us where we ultimately need to be. The horse-drawn plow got us far too.. we fed our whole family. Then the tractor came into use, and we fed thousands.

Whatever the hell technique, whatever resources will be appropriate and most effective to get what we want... we, you and I and the others. You want to keep biting their ass? I say we think a hell of alot bigger than that. Otherwise, we ARE just a bunch of mindless, disorganized, small-scale, bottle and stone-throwing, drunken asses that are just being hooligans. THAT's what the world sees, get it? This IS already a world issue. The media is immediate and international. It shapes public opinion, it doesn't report it. What has the whole damned world seen? They've seen loads of 19 year old kids running around with masks, throwing stones at the so-called legitimate representatives of proper authority and government in the north. Whether that's a true picture of what is going on, whether you like it or agree with it, none of that matters. The whole fucking GLOBE thinks we're a bunch of punks who need to get it over with. The rest of the universe think's that maybe there was legitimacy generations ago, but that we've disintegrated to being hoodlums without justification or true cause.

Yes, MINDLESS violence is our ruination now. You remind me of the man whose only tool was a hammer. Every problem he met from that point forward for the rest of his life.. he identified it as being a nail, regardless. He felt confortable with the hammer, he had some initial results with the hammer, it's the only thing he knew how to use. Know what, nowadays, there's screws, there's nuts & bolts, there's molly's, and a boat load more things that a hammer just doesn't work on. Keep the damned hammer, keep it active. There are, after all, nails. But we need to see the rest of the things going on, we need to go beyond driving nails, and learn to fully understand how to build furniture.

If you can't appreciate what I'm saying, I'm surely hoping you aren't in a position of great influence. I don't want to get in a pissing match with you, as we are both ultimately on the same side. I do though, wish I could do a job at clarifying my thoughts and my point of view. I think, I hope, we're both in line with each other.

Brian's message
Written by BigPat. (23/12-2002)
What the hell is Brian on? And where does he come from? When's the last time he was in the Creggan or went for a drink on the Falls Road? He denounces mindless violence only because it makes "the cause" look bad, but says a time may come when we need to be "surgical". What a prick!

Violence is violence. Full stop. We've only got to where we are now because (most) people have realized this and I include the likes of Martin McGuinness in this.

This is a site for celebrating song-lyrics and it's wonderful to hear Fairytale of New York on the radio so much, even if it does only come round for a few weeks every year. I'm sorry to have to get so serious, but morons like Brian need to zip it.

Paddy,

Hell of a site you have there, by the way! Great design, great work! I don't know where the (330) area code is in the US, but they're lucky to have you.

Good luck. Maybe it's a good source of origin for the other efforts? A good way to make a score of legitimate contacts (some just in great numbers, some in power of one degree or another).

Hmmmmmm....
Written by GalwayGaelic. (22/12-2002)
Hell, this is a website for lyrics to fantastic songs! Sorry to divert everything to strongly. Just remember, as we sing the songs of Ireland, as we drink the beer, and wear the colors.... look at the words, imagine the heart-felt sentiment in existence when the song was written. Imagine the true-grit of the people of the time. Imagine what they yearned for.

This whole deal of spreading the word has to be much, much more than "talking up the Irish" in off-hand conversations at the local pub, or wherever. Though it does absolutely include that. The use of the internet is good also. BUT... websites are only good if there is someone out there searching for something and they fall upon the site. We need those sites, but we have got to go on a deliberate serach of our own. We can't hope that personal conversations as well as banks of knowledge waiting patiently at a website will create any momentum of the size we need.

You guys ARE the movement. You ARE the leaders. Paddy, you're in the states. You said it's high time the truth came out, and that all you'd ever hear was this and that. If you now know the truth, then you own the secret. Imagine how many countless tens of thousands have also only "heard" what they heard? Being Irish needs to be more than going to O'Malley's Irish Pub and talking strong of Irish heritage and of generations gone-by. Joing the Ancient Order of Hybernians, join the Irish-American societies, form your own organizations. Forget that older generations seem to dominate, and you think it'd be boring. Hell, it's those older generations from whom you might learn and be further inspired. If they've become set in their ways, then respectfully move them aside. Use orgnaizations and functions to spread the very simple truth to masses of others. Develop relations between your local church and your Irish organization. Become a speaker. Locate interesting alliances. See what general, basically common concerns you may have with other populations. Rally your numbers to theirs, become a larger voice. Stay away from groups that are generally unacceptable to the population at large.

After you have built some degree of a following, or an organization (of VOTERS!!), seek an audience with a politician... mayor, congressman, etc. Ask for specific (and reasonable) incremental action. Ask for a direct opinion. PUBLISH! Have your organization take out a full page in the newspaper. No attacks, no snotty insinuations, no derogatory comments, nothing but the simple facts.

OK, start off small, but we have to START NOW. Ryan, esta in Espana? Si tienes que hablar espanol, pues.... entonces tienes que hablar espanol. Tienes que escribir en espanol tambien. Tienen que apprender, tienen que saber. Los gentes alli tienen corazon. Ryan tiene usar la corazon!

Keep posting! Post our Proclamation! Get us all involved in other good forums and web site discussions!

We need to kick intellectual ass! IF and when it is appropriate, we may need to kick some bloody ass too! Let's just not let that define us. Just as the stupid plastic green hats make our very heritage look ridiculous, so does what appears to be mindless violence. We need to, at the right time, be calculated and surgical!

I am glad to see the truth finally come out. In America, all we hear about the fighting in Ireland is that its between the Catholics and the Protestants. The REAL fight is to get England back to England. As Paul McCartney sang...."Give Ireland back to the Irish, Dont make them HAVE to take it away, Give Ireland back to the Irish, Make Ireland IRISH today". If you want to spread the word to as many people as you can, the Internet is a wonderful tool. Ever thought about creating your own website? Maybe call it "Give Ireland back to the Irish.com". I will help sread the truth to as many people as I can. Long live Ireland

Thank you, Ryan. Deep and truly touching, direct from your heart. I'm working on it from my end.. as we all must. We've got to reach our tentacles out, find, explore and develop each and every corner of support. At one time, they nailed it to the front of the GPO, for all to see and understand. Times have changed. Now, our audience is far larger. The need for them to understand is far greater. They live beyond Dublin, beyond Europe. We all need to spread our efforts, educate and teach people the truth, involve organizations of other "Hibernians". We must do our own, current version of "posting" this on the world's GPO, as it were. For every Irish man and woman and those of Irish descent, for all those who get a glint in their eye, a welled up chest filled with a glimmer of pride and rememberance, a quiet sense of what is right... Read this.... see the faces, feel the souls, know their mission, understand that it is not foolhardy, and the need to achieve is NOT over, ancient or outdated. General Douglas McArthur was once asked why he never seemed to change with the times. His response was simply that the things he believed in, didn't change regardless of the times. We need to have our present generations think beyond the "now", deeper than the surface. Heroes don't have to look like Michael Collins nor Ronald Reagan. The mirror is filled with heroes. People who acknowldged their place and took steps. We need to look in that mirror and see who needs to act.

Spread the word, educate and teach. Post this on all the GPO's around the world!!!

Of Ireland,
Brian

POBLACHT NA H EIREANN
___________________________
THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT
OF THE
IRISH REPUBLIC
TO THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND

IRISHMEN AND IRISHWOMEN: In the name of God and of the dead generations from which she receives her old tradition of nationhood, Ireland, through us, summons her children to her flag and strikes for her freedom.

Having organised and trained her manhood through her secret revolutionary organisation, the Irish Republican Brotherhood, and through her open military organisations, the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army, having patiently perfected her discipline, having resolutely waited for the right moment to reveal itself, she now seizes that moment, and, supported by her exiled children in America and by gallant allies in Europe, but relying in the first on her own strength, she strikes in full confidence of victory.

We declare the right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland, and to the unfettered control of Irish destinies, to be sovereign and indefeasible. The long usurpation of that right by a foreign people and government has not extinguished the right, nor can it ever be extinguished except by the destruction of the Irish people. In every generation the Irish people have asserted their right to national freedom and sovereignty; six times during the last three hundred years they have asserted it to arms. Standing on that fundamental right and again asserting it in arms in the face of the world, we hereby proclaim the Irish Republic as a Sovereign Independent State, and we pledge our lives and the lives of our comrades-in-arms to the cause of its freedom, of its welfare, and of its exaltation among the nations.

The Irish Republic is entitled to, and hereby claims, the allegiance of every Irishman and Irishwoman. The Republic guarantees religious and civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens, and declares its resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and all of its parts, cherishing all of the children of the nation equally and oblivious of the differences carefully fostered by an alien government, which have divided a minority from the majority in the past.

Until our arms have brought the opportune moment for the establishment of a permanent National, representative of the whole people of Ireland and elected by the suffrages of all her men and women, the Provisional Government, hereby constituted, will administer the civil and military affairs of the Republic in trust for the people.

We place the cause of the Irish Republic under the protection of the Most High God. Whose blessing we invoke upon our arms, and we pray that no one who serves that cause will dishonour it by cowardice, in humanity, or rapine. In this supreme hour the Irish nation must, by its valour and discipline and by the readiness of its children to sacrifice themselves for the common good, prove itself worthy of the august destiny to which it is called.

Signed on Behalf of the Provisional Government.
