Shame

I'm so terribly proud of my Irish heritage. At the same time, I really could care less what the religious beliefs are of anyone who chooses to life in our Ireland (the 32 county Ireland). I am, though, thoroughly perplexed by something and fully ashamed at the same time. Having nothing whatsoever to do with anyone's religion, why in the world is it that nearly all supporters of Johnny appear to be totally illiterate? Their spelling is awful! Not only do they spell words wrong, but they also spell some words 2 to 3 different ways in the same sentence.. all of which are wrong. It's not just this most recent guy, it's nearly every one of them. I originally thought it may be e-shorthand. Now, after time, I find out it's not, it's just pure ignorance (or maybe stupidity or laziness.... or maybe all of the above). No wonder they've turned to the sword for over 800 years, they've not been capable to win any arguments by intellect. The poor little bastards. I'm so ashamed that they may call themselves Irishman. Then again... do they? What does an Englishman call himself when he chooses to live in Ireland, claims it to belong to England, yet continues to call it Ireland? Whatever.
Fuck ya's ya dirty irish cants!

Can I be semantic here for a second?(seeing as it's getting to be so popular on this site). Britain did NOT invade Ireland way back in the 1100's because "Britain" did not exist then. England invaded (one of the early Henry's possibly). Britain doesn't really start until the Act of Union originally between England and Scotland in the early 1700s.

Ireland had successive waves of invasion/immigration/call them what you will and for all their faults, most of these people DID become "more Irish than the Irish themselves". Hence names like Fitzgerald.

It was that prick Cromwell who really fucked us and the subsequent Act of Union which cemented it. Politically, we should be supporting Scottish and Welsh nationalists too. England wouldn't be a bad ould spot if they gave up this "empire" shit that seems to pervade them still. They're not bad oul' skins, most of 'em.

Thats not really fair. You used words like "equates, and inconsequential, CO2, and sphincter". I am sure he has never heard these words or seen them written in some bathroom wall before. We should probably stick with terms like..... FOOOOD GOOOOD, QUEEEEN BAAAAD

Your presence equates to that of a mere onlooker, in the parade of life. You are dust. You are inconsequential. Your very existence is a waste of human flesh. Every breath you inhale serves only to create an excess in CO2. Make what noise you wish. A sphincter has no choice but to make noise. Ask someone to translate this for you.

Danny, I know some of these words might be BIG for you, So I will try to use smaller ones that you might understand. First of all, If you study history, You will see that the British Invaded (that means they came to Ireland without anybodies permission) Ireland way back in the 1100's, and have tried to take over ever since. They werent welcome then, nor are they welcome now. They have brainwashed people like you to hate people from your own country. Its really quite simple. Get the Brits the hell out of Ireland, then we can ALL start over. ONE country, ONE Island. Think about it.

MK's Note on the Irish American Unity Conference
Written by Brian. (05/02-2003)
MK, putting forth your position, then calling this a debate and saying that you dont want to debate well, thats an interesting way to put forth an point of view and not hearing someone elses. Take a minute, think about it. Semantics is another interesting word that is oft times improperly used. I believe in the words chosen. Speakers and writers should be (and usually are) competent enough to consciously select the words they will use. For example, deciding which to use, i.e. surrender, give in, or capitulate. now THATs an exercise in semantics. Making the decision to use the term rubber stamp when describing the actions of Blair in his support of the US initiative in Iraq thats NOT semantics. Mindless agreement and support of something, with minimal review if any, is called rubber stamping. Let me get this straight, you dont think the use of this term in this application is derogatory? Do you know what derogatory means? Disparaging, critical, insulting, offensive, deprecating, belittling are listed in the thesaurus. Those are absolutely clear and accurate descriptions of derogatory. If a world leader is rubber stamping anything, hes guilty of all those descriptions. For someone to include that phrase in their posting regarding SAOIRSE (unless those were your own words that you used when telling everyone of the rally?), clearly expresses their derogatory opinion of an entirely separate issue. That is a conscious decision to express the writers personal beliefs with regards to that separate issue. That reflects the political beliefs of the writer (perhaps not even the organization). It is not a simple wrestle of the author over which word would cosmetically be more appropriate.

If you are going to respond again, telling me of the legitimacy, credibility, history or primary focus of the Irish American Unity Conference, then youve missed my point. To reiterate, the unity that we are all claiming to seek, will not come to fruition if we consciously decide to inject other issues (either in straightforward fashion or embedded in text), or allow others within our group to do it. It will not come to fruition if we do not DELIBERATELY monitor what we write, what we say and who we support or ally ourselves with, in order to determine if they have in any way injected beliefs in distracting issues which will fracture unity and squash hopes for true SAOIRSE. Language is not semantics. It is designed and available to be well-planned. It is supposed to represent clearly and concisely, in this case, our beliefs and our position. It is not supposed to be filled with ambiguous terms or distracting points of view or issues that may passively influence readers. The only time that language is supposed to be used to do those things, is when the author PURPOSELY puts that sort of thing into the text!

My word of warning to us all is that we have to be particularly conscious and aware of the effect of such a practice, be it deliberate of accidental. We have to be sure we are not guilty of it, and that we are aware of other parties practices with the technique. MK, you appear to have a good bit of knowledge about the history of Ireland and the struggle for SAOIRSE. If you wish to influence and perhaps lead others in this effort, then the effort would benefit most from a pure, virgin agenda focused solely (not primarily, but solely) upon that agenda. If I am telling you something new, then perhaps you should take heed. If I am telling you something you already know, then perhaps the rest of us should take heed when dealing with you. Whichever.
Patrick, Re: AOH
Written by GalwayGaelic. (03/02-2003)
Paddy,

With regards to the AOH, be advised... the AOH is not a politically oriented organization. They are a catholic organization of Irish men (and also a woman's group exists). Their interests lie in establishing relationships with other Irish groups, their catholic charity, etc. Within the AOH though, you will likely find sub cultures, smaller groups, who may share our concern and have other organizations to which they belong and may recommend to you.

Good Luck!!

I've heard that Alex Maskey, Belfast's Lord Mayor, had unveiled a tricolour in his office at Belfast City Hall alongside the union jack. Well, I'm waiting for him to remove the Union Jack, now...
