| Peacemaker, For starters, I wish I were there right now to Slap the stupid out of you. You are side-stepping again. I will write this very plainly so everyone can read along with you. I asked you a simple question. That question was what the real fighting in Ireland is about. Your answer was something to the effect that it is two types of people disagreeing or something to that nature. The real fighting in Ireland is to get the British Influence out. That is what the REAL fighting is about. Knowing the type of person that you claim to be, I will leave it with that ONE simple question. We can debate other questions as well, just ONE at a time . | Well, that could be a nice compromise, even though I don't actually believe that the Unionists will ever accept it. Moreover, let's not forget that one of the Republicans' goal is Unity. So, I don't think they will accept it either. Yet, that's a nice solution theorically. | Let’s get level headed again. There seems to be no one left except Charlotte and Big Pat who want to discuss things in a normal and sensible manner. Charlotte do you really believe that there is absolutely no comparison between Belgium and Ireland? I think there are some and I think we can all learn from them. The people: Ireland: Irish and British Irish. Belgium: French and Flemish The religions: Ireland: South, predominantly Catholic. North, predominantly Protestant Belgium: Wallonia, predominantly Catholic. Flanders, predominantly Protestant. Politics Belgium Federal Government governing the states of Wallonia and Flanders. Ireland, Irish Republic and the British province of Northern Ireland. This is where the big difference is between Ireland and Belgium. You state that the North of Ireland is occupied by the British, I do not fully agree with you I have to partially agree with what Mr.e has stated. When one says British, then one has to include Scotland, Wales and England. 84% of the British population happens to be English. I have been many times to England and I have never felt any real hatred from the English people towards the Irish. Most do not know or want to listen about the problems in NI. They just want to get on with their own lives. In the past few years I feel that Britain has started a major change for the better. Britain has given more power to Scotland and Wales and will continue to do so with time. With time, I think this will lead to full independence for Scotland and Wales through peaceful means. One can see that the British government has also tried to give back more power to Northern Ireland, but has failed miserably. The British government have failed to convince both groups in the North to believe in its political strategy. One side think they do not have enough power (The Republicans- Who will not give back their weapons) the others believe that they are giving too much away (The Unionists-Who want the Republicans to give more). How can one find a compromise deal between two groups of people who cannot or do not want to trust each other. Look at the messages from Freedom and the responses. Provocation met with Aggression and vice-versa. The British Government are only in power in the North of Ireland, due to the will of the current majority living there. When the majority of people in the North of Ireland believe in, and vote for a unified Ireland the British government will leave peacefully. People like Freedom who will always vote against progress fortunately belong and will always belong to a tiny minority. Unfortunately there are not only Freedom’s among the Unionists but also among the Republicans. Those who act and behave like Freedom, cause nothing but hatred, promote violence and thus prolong the troubles and make the path towards a peaceful united Ireland that more difficult. The Freedom’s will eventually learn that they change or they have no use or place among a unified Irish people. There I must go back to Belgium. Belgium has a federal government which governs the two state governments Wallonia and Flanders. A similar compromise could be found to solve the political problem in Ireland. A Federal Irish government could be set-up to govern a state government for the North and a state government for the South. The Federal Irish government would have to equally respect each state government and deal with each others wishes fairly, within a federal republic of Ireland. BritishScot says he believes that there will be Union of Celtic States, excluding England. I do not think so. It is more likely that Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England will be equal partners within a European Union. Each country accepting its past, culture and forging a future as political equals. |

| You're right. I've only been living in Ireland for a few months. I have even never been to the North. I can't claim being Irish, never even tried to. I know I am an outsider, I know it well, don't worry. It stabs me like a knife each time I think of Ireland. I don't know how it is to live in Belfast or in Derry. I don't know what it is to be beaten up by a bigoted police, nor to have to be scared being shot by the IRA for some obscure reason. I don't know all that and I might never know. The only thing I know is that I love that land. It might seems strange to you. Paradoxically enough, you, who claim to have a right on this same land, you don't seem to understand that even a foreigner could LOVE it... And don't think I know nothing about all that. I might not know everything, but I know a few things. I know a few things from reading books, from watching TV, from talking with people like Noel, Patrick, Brendan and even people like you. I've been getting my information from all sides. I got Republican, Loyalist, Catholic, Protestant, British living in and out of Ireland, Irish from the South and the North's points of view. I've talked to people who sided on the right or on the left, people who didn't know, people who didn't care. You could not only imagined the interest I got in the whole matter. I'm not lecturing anyone. Yet, I feel a foreign point of view might be as valuable, or at least interesting to read as the one of someone who lived all that. Let me explain why. First of all, that means I'm objective. I have no link with any of you, so no reason to side with one or another. Secondly, it is a way for you to know what the rest of the world think of you. | Youre right big pat, i used to be pretty level headed. that soon changed when i realised that even my moderate views were too heavy for hatered filled pricks like patrick and noel. I did at one point even accept there might be a united ireland. Reading some of the points that patrick and noel wrote i soon made a u-turn in my way of thinking. I'd never accept a united ireland now. I even asked patrick once if i accepted a united ireland how would he try and accomodate the remaining british. Its pretty clear he and noel would love to see us tortured or something, theyd like revenge on us for what our ancestors did. Charlotte talks of all the injustices on one side ignoring the other side of the coin. How can she possibly give such strong opinions about a place she's only visited. She's an outsider - always will be. |

We like the same things as you do. We live a British way of life. we all have family in britain and none in Ireland, our routes are from britain. The fact is we are British, look at how many northern irish heroes fought for britain. We spilt blood for britain (Not England) as you might think. The British in N. Ireland are probably the most loyal British you'll find. The reason we want to remain british is because we cant trust the murdering bastards called the IRA. Live side by side with them.
