At the end of the day it was your King that became King of England, though we did buy your parliament off you. I`ll be voting for the SNP possibly in the next elections :-) , i live in Glasgow so i can. |
| Written by Mr E. (24/03-2003) | I never said he was Welsh just captured in Wales. |
| Written by BritishScottish. (24/03-2003) | St Patrick was not bloody Welsh, despite what some ignorant edjits will claim. Yes he was a British Celt, he spoke a form of Old Welsh, but he was Scottish.
The town of Kilpatrick is located within the Kingdom of Strathclyde - one of the original four ethnic kingdoms that were united to form Scotland. Hence, Patrick is a Strathclydean or a Scotsman, although he would most likely have considered himself British/Brythonic.
As for English views, there are numerous people here who would like to see England out of the British Union - and us Celtic nations unite. It is SE England that is the black hole for government funds, believe it or not. It is not for you, nor anyone else, to dictate who is British and who is not. It is my firm believe that Ireland will eventually join into a federal British Isles once the issue of the crown in rendered irrelevant (probably after the death of Elizabeth.

| Written by Mr E. (24/03-2003) | Coming from an English perspective.
I don't think many people actually want Northern Ireland. Neither the Irish governement or the UK. I think most British people would rather see the back of it, and the idea that we`re keeping hold of it for some economic or tactical reason is quite ridiculous. There's a large proportion of people living there, who for some reason, i`m not quite sure why to be honest, want to remain part of the UK, to just give it away would be undemocratic.
So if you want Northern Ireland, which you probably don't because the Irish governement can't actually afford to support it, you`ve got a lot of persuading to do.
Don't delude yourself by thinking you can send them all home packing back to Britain. If you start thinking like that then all the Angles and Saxons better just leave back to Europe from England. The people from Brittany and Wales can move back in. All the Americans should come home too. But watch out because all the Scots will have to move back to Northern Ireland (some of them are already there - confusing isn't it? )
Next time someone comes round collecting money for the IRA in American, stop and think and remember September the 11th, and your "War on Terrorism"
And lastly all this pointing fingers of "you invaded us and killed people etc..........". i`m not saying it's a good thing, but it's something everyone did in those darker times. Correct me if i`m wrong in believing that St Patrick was captured from Wales and taken to Ireland by an Irish raiding party. I don't think any country in the world can claim to be perfect. |

We should attack now, attacking now will have them off guard and we will be able to push their hands behind their back....instead of all this waiting around for freedom the provos should be gettin it!

| Written by Charlotte Verified user. (24/03-2003) | I would like to say the problem is totally different in Belgium and in Ireland. In Belgium, this is only a stupid fight over language. So stupid that they parted the Library of some university in Brussels into two sections : Flemish and French speaking. Anyway, fact is that language and culture is the only real problem.
In Ireland, the matter is that one of the two groups originally came from a foreign country, that they opressed the native group. Those people, or some of them, might know have turned into real Irish, having lived there for centuries. But there's also Britain involved. A foreign country, physically distinct from the green island but wanting to rule it anyway !
In Belgium, two people live together with a common government. In Ireland, one of the people imposed their government on the other.
Yet, wa can try to imagine an ideal future, like in Belgium, despite the years of war, hate and blood. Two people living together in peace. Yet, I feel this can only be fair if the government is from the originally native Irish group. Irish and British living peacefully together, yes. But under an Irish government.

You mentioned your mother was born in Belgium and moved to France and accepted the French way of life.
Well Belgium is in my opinion a good model to base a future Ireland on. Note that the past history was not as bloody, however one should look towards the future and not to the past.
Belgium has two groups of people. French speaking and Flemish speaking, both originally from completely different cultures. Belgium is a very young country that was, I believe created after the Napoleonic Wars.
What I am getting at is that both people can live with one another without killing and blowing each other up, even when they do dislike each other due to different cultural backgrounds.
If this acceptance were to be in Ireland, then there is only one future for Ireland. A united Ireland.
Over time Brit-Irish and Rep-Irish would (will) integrate more with one another, at school in the shops at football games and so on. This will not happen over night. Firstly both groups of people will have to win over their trust. I believe that this trust can only be built on peaceful means.
There will be another referendum in the future no doubt about that. One day, one of these referendums will have the result that the North will want to join the South as a united Ireland.
If after a referendum there are still people who do not want to join a single Ireland then they should go. I agree with you fully.
Freedom is a good example. Even thou I believe he should not be allowed to walk freely around he seem to be a menace to himself and everyone around him.
Where would someone like freedom go. I do not even think the English would want a moron like that.
There are a lot of guys on the site who say that where our ancestors failed we will prevail. Lets show our ancestors that we took another route and prove to them that we took the better route. |
| Written by Patrick. (23/03-2003) | Good to have you back. I dont support the war either. However, I will support our troops there. They didnt start the war, but with Gods help, they will finish it soon and come home to their families. They are just doing their jobs. I think the anti-war protestors are a little late. I protested it before it started. Now that its in full scale, there isnt really a need to protest it. What they are doing is harming the moral of the troops. I have a funny feeling that Tony Bair is going to resign after this. I hope that the U.S. finally realizes the importance of getting the Brits OUT as well.

Slan go foill |
| Written by Patrick. (23/03-2003) | Refusal CAN be a very useful weapon. The problem starts with the British thinking (and really beleiving) that they have some right to the six counties. Thats where the problems start. Ireland did not ask them to invade. Ireland did not ask them to start their own government. Ireland did not ask them to move right in and try and take over Ireland with their "circus" court systems. By simply refusing to acknowledge that they have any right in Ireland is a start. I have noticed that you must explain in great detail, every little simple word to the Brits. Even then, they won't (can't) understand.

We remember the men of the Ulster 36th Division in the Somme.
And the true heroes of the RUC who walked the rebel run streets in their queens uniform.
Billy Wright whose only crime was loyalty and paid the ultimate price for his country.
They will not grow old as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We shall remember them
LEAST WE FORGET |
