Some say that dowloading music from stuff like Kazaa or others kills the music itself. My friends who play in rock band are against it and there is no wonder in it for me. They are interested not only in making music, but also in selling cds. still, it's a way of earning for a living for them, not only their hobby. Is there any other classics im forgetting here?. they're the only one's that show up on Kazaa. Just wondering or any other bands like them, I have some Wolftones but they don't get you going as much as Eire og. Eh, it's like comparing let's say Rolling Stones and Fink Floyd (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif). They have no things in common except being a great musicians (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I think the best way to get some information is checking on the website of his band. Or waiting for the answer here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) |

Thanks a lot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)! I liked it, really (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But the voice of Declan McMaughin reminds me Ozzy Osbourne a bit. and I look forward to hear your new stuff as well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif))) best wishes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Dia dhuit 2 all. I have recently heard an alternate version of Foggy Dew, same track, different words. It starts off with the lyrics: - 'The sun did dawn, so grey and cold, on Derry's empty streets. Their valleys echo, one by one, the sound of marching feet. But not a soul did.... Sorry I can't give more. The song is a backing track 2 an 'upthera.net' video Entitled 'Irish Republican Media - Bloody Sunday' Can anyone help me as to the origns of this tune? Slainte in advance, CH. P.s. Tiocfaidh Ar La!!!! Well, an original version of The Foggy Dew is about athe Raising in 1916. And you can find many versions of this song, sang by many bands. My favoutite is the one by Shebeen. I don't know this particular one you've mentioned. I'm wondering... I know several different performing of this song and most of them differ a bit in lyrics. Most often just one word replaced by another or something like that. So what is the most original version of this poem? which one? |

What can we do... the world is lazy... and with this heat i'm too tired to contradict anyone LOL I don't know how talk about heat is related with the song "soldier boy" but it seems it is. It must be, if the subject is still continued (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I know! No matter there is hot or cold, a soldier must stand at his position. Hehe... well, a sword definitely suits anything i know with elfish looks... I think so as well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Sleep? who said sleep? I said "collapse in bed"... which is very different from sleeping (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Wish you all the best, Banshee well, when I collapse in bed I usually imediately fall asleep, just like a cat (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Nah, it's not chaos... it's the rest of the world that's chaotic, I'm sure! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) well, I like my chaos. It's a very useful weapon against those who wants to interefere in my life. They are usually completely lost. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Sounds interesting... must be a shocking sight in the morning for some people (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) I mean, everybody in the office (that is, in the whole floor... about four or five offices) heard about me and my guitar yesterday... i guess if someone came in with a sword for evenign training the whole building would find out hehe Anyway... if you all will excuse me, I'll just go to collapse in bed in this bloody spanish heat that seems to have moved to England with me... Wish you all the best (and a bit of cool air for those melting) Banshee I guess that people in my lab got used to my strange interest, unusual look and habits (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) but the sword is so, even for them a bit too much. But faces people in bus at six in the morning are worth seeing. Yous should try it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm sure that they are deeple wandering if they are dreaming or not. Some people say that I have an elfish look, so a sword suits a lot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) So, sleep well and have a good, not too hot night (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Well, I have them in some sort of binder in some sort of order... the fact that no one ever manages to find anything in there does not mean anything!!! It's ordered!!! It's just that other people's idea of order is not the same as mine!! Well, I got the same problem (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). Everything around me is absolutely chaotic. But I can find that I need. But it is true disaster, then someone tries to find in my papers someting and usually make a real mess. Anyway... It's even more surrealistic when you come on stage with guitar and chorded lyrics and such... and then just give yourself the starting note and sing with eyes closed, not a single look at the bunch of papers (did that tonight...), so... I guess it wouldn' t surprise anyone too much if I ended up bringing the laptop with me LOL Wish you all the best, Banshee A special mixture od tradition and modern way of life (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I know it very well while carying with me a sword for evening training and a laptop to work (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Oh, for heavens sakes. The first song IS NOT BY EIRE OG!!! My father, a member of the Irish Brigade, wrote The Loughall Martyrs. I was in the room when he did. Eire Og repeatedly steal/claim copyright from my father's band, THE IRISH BRIGADE, and from my mother, who is credited as McNally on all Irish Brigade albums for which she wrote songs. In fact, Eire Og steal and claim copyright from many others too. I'm getting fed up with having to constantly correct this. Simply put: Eire Og write songs along the lines of "Go on home British Bastards" (although, that's probably stolen too). When it comes to beautiful, moving ballads, like those written by the various members of the Irish Brigade, I can assure you they've stolen them. They even claimed that they wrote "The Ballad of Pearse Jordan"...having never met the guy. I was brought up with Pearse. His parents are (and have been for more than 25 years) close friends of my parents. This is my first look here in ages... I wonder how many more songs Eire Og are claiming as their own? Well, it's a very serious acusation. But many of rebel songs can be considered as in some way traditional and many bands are playing them. And a large number of such songs is to say "Go on home British" in more or less polite way. When the song "celtic and st. Pauli" is concerned... today Celtic Glasgow is playing the match in the town I live. But unfortunalety it isn't transmitted by any tv and I couldn't go and see. But the song itself is very joyful and always make me smile when I listen to it. I like Eire Og's songs most becouse of the voice and a way of singing of Gary. And the well-known songs played by them are much more "rebel" then in other versions. What I like the most. |

(...) BTW: Some polish shanties bands sing this song with polish lyrics, and I was wonder if it's translation or not - it seems someone write whole new lyrics from scratch:) Strange, because irish music and culture is very popular in Poland - we have lot of bands which plays original irish/celtic music, and makes new music inspired by this tradition (like Carrantuohill, Stonehenge, Shannon, and others), but breton music is almost unknown. Sad, because it's beautiful. (...) It is really popular, indeed. In some cases polish lyrics are simply translation of original version, but in other they're not. I know several versions of "Star from County Down" (for example) with diffrent words. If the Bretom music is concerned we should mention very interesting band Open Folk. They have also Breton songs in their repertoire. I think that one of most interesting Polish-Irish bands is Meltrad. It's maybe not so popular like Carrantuohill or Shannon but their versions of well known songs usually are very energetic. |

Well, it's quite funny to imagine someone playing and singing and watching on the laptop 's screen for chords or lirycs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif). A bit surrealistic view. Can't you put those papers in some kind of ring binder in alphabetical order? It would make finding of desired one much simpler. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) So we both tend to make back-ups of songs and chords. It's a very useful habit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Yeah! When I look for some lyrics I usually ask google about them (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) And it shows two places - Triskelle or this Collection. Then usually I put lyrics of my favourite songs on my weblog. There are more songs there then my own notes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). |

When you look for lyrics you should always start from Triskelle web site, it is very rich source of songs and information about them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Answering to Oglaigh's post - I think that this alliance between European countries can be very creative, it can help to exchange experiences and close down the prejudices. But it depends on the people if they wolud forget where they are from. But many of them are hurrying for a job, money and have no time to think about it. Earning for a living is more important. It is the worst scenario, that some of them would forger about their origin not becouse they want to another country and ake anotner lifestyle, but they are forced to do it, when in their own ones they cannot live and work for their living. I think that arists are the ones to remind the past and origins. Not politicians or journalists, but artists and their songs, poems or paintings. But in some countries nationalism has very bad assotiations or reminds things that people don't like to remember. But does that mean that they are going to forget their history, origins? Of course not. |

I admire this man for his music and all activities for the poorest. Really. But sometimes I think he is too optymistic. The 2005 year has passed, but problems remain. And I don't think that Britain or any od the richest countries would take care for the Third World. It simply doens't defray to them. Nowadays money is a god. Sad but true. |

I like them so much becouse they're a part of a romantic legend of IRA and its fight for freedom. Of course, I know that those legends have nothing to do with real life in warzone of any kind. And while listening to them we should remember about the dark side if IRA's activity. But, from the other side, these songs are an important part of Irish national identity, it helped to maintain it through the times. |

Just find the pub or club you like and ask the owner. If they have the live music, they probably will want to hear yours before they would let you play. I think that for your first prtformance you may not be paid, but if the audience would like you, it may change. |
