Sorry to bring this up and i know i haven't been on for a while.. but whilst i was at the Celtic game last night against Barcelona ive got to ask why boo what happened...The terror attack in Madrid was shocking and i was bascially in tears...I mean Catlanya club or not Why did Some of the Barca fans boo in the minutes silence, not only did i find it an insult i was sickened by what was said...

Id just like to wish all the best to the families of the tragic incident...It could happen in Glasgow or anywhere else. God Bless.

Hi,

As I said in one of my first post, I live in the Basque Country, (north of Spain), although I come from the other corner of the country (Galiza). I don't know about other places in the country, but at least my town was completely paralized after the news came out: schools and universities called off the classes, most people left work to join the demonstrations and so on.

I think there was a special feeling of solidarity over here in the basque country because at first it was said tha ETA, the Basque group, were responsible for the attack (although now it is not that clear), and I think Basque people wanted to show their support was with the victims, not the perpetrators. However, I'm sure there were people who smiled when they heard the news.

I would say I would keep you informed if you want, but for what i've seen, there's much more information on CNN,BBC or Internet that over here... there are general elections tomorrow, so I suppose it has something to do with information being held back until the results come out, in order to prevent the attack to alter them.

Yeah I see what you mean. Apparently or so ive read that Al-Quada claimed responsibility not ETA and I did think it was too big of an operation for ETA. Its just a wonder how the minority of mindless moron's could boo at a minute's silence at a football game, When you look at the news and see the pictures etc etc of the train stations you get a chill through your body (Or rather I did)...God Bless the families .
keltic_banshee
There have always been mindless people who never cared about the grief and pain other people suffer. I think there are people like that everywhere, but over here they seem to be worse... as if they didn't have any kind of feelings or compassion to show.

Hopefully people will change...

I was planning to go out with some irish friends who were coming over to bring a little "St patrick spirit" to those over here who can't be in ireland for the craic. But it seems they won't be able to come, so I supposse we'll have to find our own way to celebrate it... cheap if possible, 'cos, as always, i'm short of money laugh.gif

Some of the Barca fans started chanting ETA and We Are The Catalan during the minutes silence and then the Celtic fans booed them to try shut them up but it only made the noise worse and it came across like the Celtic fans were booing the silence.
Tam1967
I seen the fans who made the noise as was sitting near them, i seen 3 fans dejected from the stadium and i hope they were arrested. Whatever you beleive in, the minutes silence was for the familes and friends of those who died, nothing else...

God Bless them all

Hi,
As I said before, some people seem not to be able to show any respect for the grief and pain of the families of those affected by the attack in any way. Anyway, there have also been many different opposite attitudes.

For example, in the University I attend to, there were silent demonstrations to show solidarity with those affected, and I saw people attending them whose ideas are completely different and who wouldn't even sit together in a classroom attending them and calmly discussing among them what else could be done to support or help. That gave me a strange feeling, something between thinking "thank god none of them spoiled the demonstration" and "how sad it is that it took a massacre like this to show them they can work together".

Anyway, there will always be someone unable to be sympathetic, let us just hope they will learn through their life.

The attack was atrocious whoever commited it -now sure it are muslim-fudamentalists- but was I was also appauled by was the way the government (Partido Popular, right-wing) manipulated the on-going of investigations and their out-come! i couldn't believe that... They were 90% sure in the beginning it was ETA, look at it now. Good we have a division between the state's government and justice (most of the time) here in Europe...

90% of the Spanish people was against a war in Iraq and participation of Spain in it: Aznar showed some totalitarian tricks by joining Bush...
Now they got an attack -presumably because of the former- they want to hush everything up and blame the ETA so they could save their election results.
NO WAY! HA!

I hope the PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Espagnol, left-wing and won elections) and thereby PM Zapateiro will withdraw the Spanish troops from Iraq, if that isn't too late of course...

Hi,

When I went out this morning and found the results of yesterday's elections in the press, I thought there was a strange feeling in everyone I saw in the street... just as if everybody seemed too happy for a monday morning :-) I think it has something to do with the fact that PP is out of the government, as many people think their attitude in the last three or four years has been intolerable.

However, I have to say that most people are expecting to see what PSOE does during the first month in charge before they consider the results positive... I think there was a feeling of "anyone will do it better than aznar and his mates", but most of us want to see how better Zapatero can do it... don't know if I'm making any sense laugh.gif

On a personal anecdote, a friend of mine called me last night, arround 2 am, right after the final results came out... just to say "PP is out, PP is out". I think it shows the feeling of many people in Spain... the news is not that PSOE won, but that PP is out

As I said before, I don't know if I'm making any sense right now... it's hard to write anything coherent at this time of the night when I've been up since 6am

Good news (to me ): Zapateiro IS planning to remove Spanish troops from Iraq after he called the war on Iraq: "A disastrous war and a disastrous occupation". He also critisized Bush and Blair on the same issue.
Finally a Spanish PM who respects the will of the people... Bad luck for Bush and Blair! laugh.gif

The Associated Press today said that Islamic terrorist groups will now ease up on Spain.

"In its statement, Abu Hafs al-Masri said it was calling a truce in Spain to give the socialist government that was elected Sunday, three days after the train attacks, time to carry out its pledge to withdraw troops from Iraq."

As far as I can see, Spain has done nothing more than prove to the terrorists that deliberately killing innocent people will get them everything they want. I wonder how many more people will be blown to bits thanks to this glowing affirmation from the Spanish people. The election should have been postponed until people had the chance to sort some of these things out. I strongly feel that the threat of another attack has risen significantly because of this. Oh well, I suppose if another few hundred (or thousand) people are torn apart, Spain can then join the rest of Europe and simply blame Bush for it.

"Definitely, good news for me too"

Really? I guess we'll see how "good" this news is.

Who will they blame if it isn't Bush? They have got noone else to blame so they take it out on him, bullshit if you ask me!
keltic_banshee
Hi,
I just want to say that the fact that the socialists won the elections had more to do with the right-wing government holding back information about the bombings that with the attack itself. It was not a question of "they brought this on us" but a question of "how do they dare to lie to us". So, the fact that the socialists won is good news for me, and the fact that they are withdrawing from Irak, as the promised during the electoral campaing, is good new for me, because at least they're being true to what they said.

And don't worry, before blaming Bush, we have our own stupid person over here to blame for getting the country in this whole mess.

Do you know who I blame? I blame the fuckers who bombed the trains.
keltic_banshee
No doubt they're to blame, but still, there's a general feeling over here that they would never had targeted Spain if... Spain hadn't been involved in the war in Irak. A war, by the way, to which most of the people in the country were opposed to, but it seems the government was deaf and blind to its people's oppinion.

America started the war and they haven't attacked since
Patrick
CORRECTION, George Bush started the war in Iraq, NOT America. Any war-monger that has troops killed needlesly doesnt belong in office.
Patrick
He went against the entire U.N. when he declared war on Iraq. Gee, Good thing it wasnt about the oil.
Americanizm
George Bush represents America, he is our president. The soldiers were not forced to join the military, they knew that there was a chance of being killed in action. Think of all of the dead Iraqis who could have been saved if this war was started sooner, and as for the U.N. America does not need their permission.
Patrick
Thank you Heather. You just made another great friend in the U.S.A.
Patrick
LOL laugh.gif Oh Yeah, I could see myself as President. It would definately be the begining of the end laugh.gif I dont know anything about politics...Wait, Neither does Bush laugh.gif Besides, he has all his secret service guys with him
Americanizm
If you don't know anything about politics why are you discussing politics?
Patrick
I think you are a little too wet behind the ears to say that.
If you dont know how Bush has screwed the whole country over, than I feel sorry for you. Look at how many MILLIONS of jobs he has lost for Americans. Look at our Labor Unions. In my Local alone, there are over 200 people on the books. That means that there are electricians that have been around for many years who will be waiting until this fall before returning to work. All the while Your George Bush is spending BILLIONS of dollars killing innocent people in Iraq. As someone who is just old enough to vote in your first Presidential election, I hope you dont vote for Bush. It will indeed be the end of the world
Fionas
Bush is a dishonor for all the american heroes...

for all americans, that worked hard for to make america to the land, that it is today... and I think sadly america had too many mans like bush before...

but nevertheless, it had at least twice as many good people
Patrick
He definately has his hands full with all the Anti war protesters. But what does he expect? He started this needless war. He has had fine American soldiers killed and for what reason? To free the Iraqi people? Hey George, How about freeing the people in your own country first! What a concept eh? Why not clean up America first, Then start helping other countries out instead of making the USA a Laughing stock. You are an embarressment to America! IMPEACH THE WARMONGER!
Fionas
so, I think he did it, because every known president started a war, when he didnt start a war, he would be unpopular out of the USA, and not be a part of american history
MacGowanRocks
Being a Canadian, I'm an 'outsider looking in'. From the moment I heard Bush was running, I hoped to God that he wouldn't be elected. Unfortunately he was, and America (in general) seemed to think it was such a great thing. Now most Americans are finally seeing him for what he really is, a pompus, arrogant jerk. I'm sorry but I can't stand the man. He came into office war hungry and well, now he's made a mess and he doesn't know how to clean it. I think Robin Williams said it best when he said "Some men are born with greatness, some men have it thrust upon them, others recieve it as a graduation gift". I believe Bush is in the last category.
Patrick
Please dont apologize for NOT liking the President of the USA. I dont know that many people that actually DO like the war-mongering PIG! Just warn everyone you know that when he makes his "visit' to Ireland, that the shit is going to hit the fan. I keep telling myself that he cant be THAT STUPID, but he keeps proving me wrong.

Do you think Kerry would be a better president? I hardly think so. And as for the anti-war protesters that happens in every war.
Americanizm
Do you think it was a good idea when America stepped in and helped the french in vietnam?
Americanizm
How many American soldiers died? huh.gif
Patrick
How many soldiers NEEDLESSLY died in Viet Nam? ALL OF THEM!
Let me educate you on a little American history. Lyndon Johnson was John Kennedys Vice President during the Viet Nam conflict. Kennedy was COMPLETLY OPPOSED to sending our troops to Viet Nam. Johnson, Nixon, and a bunch of Johnsons rich Oil Tycoons found they could get even richer by going to war. They had Kennedy ASSASINATED. The greedy bastards had him killed just to lign their pockets with even more $$ JUST LIKE GEORGE BUSH!! There was absolutely NO REASON to go in and bomb the shit out of Iraq! Thats what the protestors are saying. Listen to what they are saying before shooting your young mouth off like that. And as far as John Kerry running for President, Damn right he would make a better President than Bush. Kerry has been over to Ireland to try and re-establish a Bond between our two countries. A bond that Bush has turned inside out. Kerry has done MORE for Ireland since he started running for office than Bush has done since he has BEEN in office. Do yourself a favor, Do a little digging here and find this out for yourself.... Find out what our National Surplus was at the begining of George Bushs administration (The Largest in history) and then find out what our National Deficit is Now(Also the Largest in history) Do the math! George Bush and his crownies are getting richer, while us working Americans are taking it in the ass! Unless your parents are stinking filthy rich, I suggest you do a little studying on the FACTS about your George Bush.

I have just read that George Bush will visit Ireland in June, this is all well and good and hopefully will have a positive impact on the peace process. However, I also read that his security team will be armed and authorised to shoot in order to save life, presumably American life. Is this normal procedure for a visiting head of state? In my view this is not acceptable, we maintain an unarmed police force yet a foreign force can enter our country and shoot our citizens if it deems necessary. Ireland should know the danagers of a forein power having weapons and being authorised to shoot to kill.

Who is responsible for authorising whether the US can do this? Is it not more accetable for the Irish security forces to provide protection. It is inevitable that anti war protests will take place when he arrives so is it not a dangerous situation to have weapons around when tension is in the air.

I have no doubt that these personell will be trained to the highest standard but I can not agree with allowing forein forces to bring weapons to my country with the authority to use them on Irish citizens.

Patrick
Well said Heather. When you are the worlds most hated man, Paranoia strikes deep. But guess who is paying for all the show of military force? You got it, ME and all the hard working people like me. They will raise taxes everywhere they can to try and squeeze MORE money from the hard working class of people. They will raise the price of petrol by 30-50 cents a gallon on any particular day. But NOT to pay for what Bush has created. I have an idea.... " Hey Bush, Try a Conference call, It would save BILLIONS of dollars and probably save your life too"
Oh shit, That would be too simple
Americanizm
I don't agree with George Bush but I don't really agree with any politician. But I do think that taking Saddam out of power was a good thing.

VRT-news about Bush...

QUOTE

It says Bush angries American citizens by taking vacation when his troop face the most violent period in since the beginning of the war, etc...
Not a single American president took as many days vacation as Bush jr, that is 500 whole or half days in one of his estates or ranches. This means 40% of the time since he 'became' president.

Well, Americans, I really don't understand how you ever got such a president and why you support him that much. Are the American people kept THAT stupid? What a nice thing to know your president is taking vacation almost the half time of his presidency! I'd start mumbling about tax-payers-money, but what the heck: he increased the budget for Dfence and decreased the budgets for Education and Health Insurance.
I really can't get to the level (heads) of Americans... Are they really that stupid or are they just being brainwashed?!
Same thing with his tax-cuts: yes, he kept his promise, but didn't mention that he'd only do that for the 10% richest Americans, who -of course- really need it.
I'm really wondering where this world is heading to, when the most powerful nation is ruled by media-manipulating, world-manipulating, lying-for-war, egocentric, involment-sick (in foreifn countries), arrogant, agressive and bullying people... Oof...

How on earth is it possible...

P.S. Pennywise about USA: Land of the free?! Who ever told you that is your enemy!
