Sorry to bring this up and i know i haven't been on for a while.. but whilst i was at the Celtic game last night against Barcelona ive got to ask why boo what happened...The terror attack in Madrid was shocking and i was bascially in tears...I mean Catlanya club or not Why did Some of the Barca fans boo in the minutes silence, not only did i find it an insult i was sickened by what was said...

Id just like to wish all the best to the families of the tragic incident...It could happen in Glasgow or anywhere else. God Bless.

Hi,

As I said in one of my first post, I live in the Basque Country, (north of Spain), although I come from the other corner of the country (Galiza). I don't know about other places in the country, but at least my town was completely paralized after the news came out: schools and universities called off the classes, most people left work to join the demonstrations and so on.

I think there was a special feeling of solidarity over here in the basque country because at first it was said tha ETA, the Basque group, were responsible for the attack (although now it is not that clear), and I think Basque people wanted to show their support was with the victims, not the perpetrators. However, I'm sure there were people who smiled when they heard the news.

I would say I would keep you informed if you want, but for what i've seen, there's much more information on CNN,BBC or Internet that over here... there are general elections tomorrow, so I suppose it has something to do with information being held back until the results come out, in order to prevent the attack to alter them.

Yeah I see what you mean. Apparently or so ive read that Al-Quada claimed responsibility not ETA and I did think it was too big of an operation for ETA. Its just a wonder how the minority of mindless moron's could boo at a minute's silence at a football game, When you look at the news and see the pictures etc etc of the train stations you get a chill through your body (Or rather I did)...God Bless the families .

There have always been mindless people who never cared about the grief and pain other people suffer. I think there are people like that everywhere, but over here they seem to be worse... as if they didn't have any kind of feelings or compassion to show.

Hopefully people will change...

I was planning to go out with some irish friends who were coming over to bring a little "St patrick spirit" to those over here who can't be in ireland for the craic. But it seems they won't be able to come, so I supposse we'll have to find our own way to celebrate it... cheap if possible, 'cos, as always, i'm short of money

Some of the Barca fans started chanting ETA and We Are The Catalan during the minutes silence and then the Celtic fans booed them to try shut them up but it only made the noise worse and it came across like the Celtic fans were booing the silence.

I seen the fans who made the noise as was sitting near them, i seen 3 fans dejected from the stadium and i hope they were arrested. Whatever you beleive in, the minutes silence was for the familes and friends of those who died, nothing else...

God Bless them all

Hi,
As I said before, some people seem not to be able to show any respect for the grief and pain of the families of those affected by the attack in any way. Anyway, there have also been many different opposite attitudes.

For example, in the University I attend to, there were silent demonstrations to show solidarity with those affected, and I saw people attending them whose ideas are completely different and who wouldn't even sit together in a classroom attending them and calmly discussing among them what else could be done to support or help. That gave me a strange feeling, something between thinking "thank god none of them spoiled the demonstration" and "how sad it is that it took a massacre like this to show them they can work together".

Anyway, there will always be someone unable to be sympathetic, let us just hope they will learn through their life.

The attack was atrocious whoever commited it -now sure it are muslim-fudamentalists- but was I was also appauled by was the way the government (Partido Popular, right-wing) manipulated the on-going of investigations and their out-come! i couldn't believe that... They were 90% sure in the beginning it was ETA, look at it now. Good we have a division between the state's government and justice (most of the time) here in Europe...

90% of the Spanish people was against a war in Iraq and participation of Spain in it: Aznar showed some totalitarian tricks by joining Bush...
Now they got an attack -presumably because of the former- they want to hush everything up and blame the ETA so they could save their election results.
NO WAY! HA!

I hope the PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Espagnol, left-wing and won elections) and thereby PM Zapateiro will withdraw the Spanish troops from Iraq, if that isn't too late of course...

Hi,

When I went out this morning and found the results of yesterday's elections in the press, I thought there was a strange feeling in everyone I saw in the street... just as if everybody seemed too happy for a monday morning :-) I think it has something to do with the fact that PP is out of the government, as many people think their attitude in the last three or four years has been intolerable.

However, I have to say that most people are expecting to see what PSOE does during the first month in charge before they consider the results positive... I think there was a feeling of "anyone will do it better than aznar and his mates", but most of us want to see how better Zapatero can do it... don't know if I'm making any sense

On a personal anecdote, a friend of mine called me last night, arround 2 am, right after the final results came out... just to say "PP is out, PP is out". I think it shows the feeling of many people in Spain... the news is not that PSOE won, but that PP is out :)

As I said before, I don't know if I'm making any sense right now... it's hard to write anything coherent at this time of the night when I've been up since 6am :)

Good news (to me :P ): Zapateiro IS planning to remove Spanish troops from Iraq after he called the war on Iraq: "A disastrous war and a disastrous occupation". He also critisized Bush and Blair on the same issue.
Finally a Spanish PM who respects the will of the people... Bad luck for Bush and Blair!

The Associated Press today said that Islamic terrorist groups will now ease up on Spain.

"In its statement, Abu Hafs al-Masri said it was calling a truce in Spain to give the socialist government that was elected Sunday, three days after the train attacks, time to carry out its pledge to withdraw troops from Iraq."

As far as I can see, Spain has done nothing more than prove to the terrorists that deliberately killing innocent people will get them everything they want. I wonder how many more people will be blown to bits thanks to this glowing affirmation from the Spanish people. The election should have been postponed until people had the chance to sort some of these things out. I strongly feel that the threat of another attack has risen significantly because of this. Oh well, I suppose if another few hundred (or thousand) people are torn apart, Spain can then join the rest of Europe and simply blame Bush for it.

"Definitely, good news for me too"

Really? I guess we'll see how "good" this news is.
