There's no best song of all times. There's just one song to suit one time
Right now mine is Thief of your heart sung by Sinead O'Connor

Well, for me there's no best song, too.
Amhrn na bhFiann is somewhat "out of it". It's special...
The rest of my favourites changes. Right now they are:
Tri Martolod (the version of Alan Stivell with Tri Yann)
Chanson a boire
Gortoz a ran
Gleanntain Ghlas Ghaoth Dobhair
Young Ned of the hill
The Praties
Son ar sistr
(does anyone have a recording of it, btw? Charlotte? )Tir an airm
...but as I said, it changes...

Gallout a ran kompren, met sot on Stivell. Brav eo.
I can understand that, I love Stivell. He's good.
Oh Breton nation, you'll amaze those who would bury you,
There's no world without you, Lalalalaleno...
...And I can't get "Tri Martolod" out of my head...
Whereas... I'm just listening to "Brian Boru" by Stivell. This song is really
great. Gaeilge and Brezhoneg in one song...
Celts unite...

Surely you've all heard the dance-ish version of Fields of Athenry? Couldn't tell you who the artist is, but the song may have been on a Glasgow Celtic FC -related CD at one time or another.
Not a bad song to begin with, this version could be the launch of rebel songs on the Ibiza scene

Anybody know any modern bands that are influenced by Irish Republicans or the struggle in general?
I was looking through the album booklet of Rage Against The Machine's first album "Rage Against The Machine" which I got a few days ago (which is fuckin class), and at the back it acknowledged Bobby Sands as an influence. Thought that was pretty cool.

That's not exactly a republican song, as Bono likes to point out before singing it. In a DVD release of a Slane Castle gig Bono actually goes through all the names of the people killed in Omagh during that song.

John Lennon has sung the song "Give Ireland Back to the Irish"... but don't know if that counts to modern songs...

good to see another 'Floyd-head' last count, I have 35 floyd cd's. Astronomy Domine and One of these days are right up there too.
As far as Zeppelin, back in the 70's If Zep was playin on the juke-box, I couldnt be beat playing pool. As long as Jimmy Page was jammin, I was Rockin! One of the few bandsthat actually sound better in the studio than live.

Comfortably Numb has two great guitar solos, so that's my favourite Floyd track. And Shine On You Crazy Diamond for just being a complete stoner track...
Patrick I'm exactly the same at pool, whenever a Zep or Lizzy track comes on my potting just improves like crazy. Don't know about Zep sounding better in the studio than live though. That new DVD is all live material and it's amazing. "Moby Dick", 20 minute drum solo...hell yeah!

Deep Purple, Black Sabbath,ZZ Top, Santana, Eagles...ALL GREAT BANDS, But Floyd and Zep ROCK!
I use to install ProAudio systems for auditoriums and churches. When it came time to 'EQ' the systems, I would play the entire 'Wish you were here" cd cranked full tilt. It has every low, middle, and high end note. I am sure there are nuns STILL praying for me.
I've seen Floyd 4 times in outdoor concerts. Greatest light show I have ever seen
Still waiting for them to find a girl that can sing 'Great gig in the sky' better than the original

Got all the Floyd Albums too, Well since Gilmour's joined that is - haven't got much of the earlier stuff with Barrett.

Sid Barret looks like he did alot of drugs growing up. I mean his face is all distorted and he only has two white blood cells left
The outdoor concerts were great. They ran the smoke machines all during the show. Then when they ran some of the lazers over it, It looked like you were underwater. I think it would be pretty cool to be a roadie with Floyd for one month just for the experience.
