It has yet to be seen how influential John Roberts' own faith will be on the US Senate.

Supreme court nominee John Roberts', father Jack and mother Rosemary hold the belief, that it is their tight knit Catholicism, that has kept their family together.

There is some hope for everyone.

At least you have some hope...

But whatever. I really don't see what the US have to do with all this. Let them mind their own business and not to meddle in Irish affairs.

Pff... So what th fahk eh? Just like that other neo-con cunt John Bolton. Seen what those FAAAAHKIN' hypocritic catholics/protestants/religion fanatics have done for poverty in the UN?? That's what those bunch of american criminals have done: ().
What's that nutter talking about: ()?

Oh yes: Example on the UN:

And now I'm may be statin' it in a ridicule -and crude- way:

Art. ***: Help (poor) people.
Art. ***: The UN should do something about (poverty in) the world.
Art. ***: Halve poverty (in ten years).

MORE than 700 amendments have those american bastards brought in to block the UN-resolution to halve poverty in the world.
You call that fahkin' christian??? What does the US care about UN-resolutions? Fahk all... The cold war is over. Have you seen more money than ever go to defense 'n army 'n intelligence 'n all, even at cost of education 'n health service?
America is fahk all to do aboot democracy 'n all that...

Look at their system! TWO parties, only different in a WEE BIT. AND? The Republicans -and thus the neo-cons- rule the Supreme Court. They rule congress, they rule the senate, they rule the government, they rule corporate America.
As I see it, America is a -corporate/fascist- dictatorship in democratic disguise.
Look at that farce 9/11 was, look at that farce New Orleans was...

POWER 'n nothing else...

Just another fahkin' PNAC Neo-con in power...

And Patrick, I have nothing against the American people, but you live in a crap country... The American government is just an aristocratic maffia... Nothin' more USA= maffia + power

Going too far Christophe- the supreme court, as any eejit knows, makes rulings that annoy the sh1t of of cons, neo cons, and religious.

Examples- No prayer in schools, Maintaining Roe vs Wade, flag burning is ok, right to die in the terry schiavo case.

There is a case to be made that the two current vacancies may allow Bush to reshape the court- not that- reshape. His political capital though is low after Katrina and Iraq- so he may not get his way.

One of the courts most recent decisions, one that many mistakenly blamed on the 'conservative' members of the Supreme Court, was actually made by the 'liberal' justices. CLICKY.

The questions that should be asked of a would-be justice are not his political leanings or his theology but his philosophy on jurisprudence. Should you ask his political positions or faith you will continue to turn the court into another political institution, which it is not meant to be.

Strangly enough the person that advocates the politicization of the court and its control by a political party/movement is Howard Dean, chairman of the DNC.

"...we find ourselves...out of power in the White House, out of power in the Congress, and out of power in the Supreme Court."
- Howard Dean, Foreword Don't Think Of An Elephant by George Lakoff

It is frightening that so many individuals in the US see the Supreme Court not as a defender of the Constitution but as a convenient tool to bypass the legislature when you don't get your own way.

It is so called "progressive" adherents that I find troubling, not neccessarily for the moral goals of their philosophy, but instead for their contempt for the law when it slows their march toward some glorious philosophical revolution.

Many of the arguments leveled at Roberts are the same that were leveled at Bork at his hearings. A fine judicial scholar was pilloried once and I am one who is thankful that that behavior has not been repeated.

I do not know what to make of the two threads above.

looking at their contribution to this board, gaelic history and culture, you would think they were completely and totally demoralised.

Their expressions, which I have read, do not impress any sort of universal expediency, who do they appeal to? Nor could I envisage them attaining much support, as an alternative to the system that already exists. i.e. The US Senate.

My point to all of you is.

If you have no viable alternative, which can persuade others over to your point of view, encompassing also the same calibre of administrative skills, hitherto, legislative powers.

Then sadly, you are wasting your time.

Frankly, I don't think it is worth grumbling about how much cash you lose either, to the Gov't. The size of a cash penalty or imposition doesn't matter. What goes around comes around, as far as I can see.

If your moaning about it, you 're either greedy or you're justified in defending the your side against adversity, namely the poor against corruption.

"Fight for the truth, and the lord god will champion on your side".

That's it.

Rightous money always triumphs.

I understand the part about being home sick. I visited the US East to West in 1997 and enjoyed the visit. I felt like going back at one point to live, after a being back here a while. It seemed as if there were less adversities in the US because I was new and visiting.

But I relaise too, that it is worth cherishing my own identity, heritage and clans culture here. The US is clanish anyway. That is why you have so many different quarters. Espanic, Peurto Rican, Irish, Jewish, Scots, German, Chinese, French, Italian, ect....ect.. I could go on.

It is the same here with clans, and those clans are still important, historically through scripture and are today. Keep your roots.

A look at global history over the Twentieth Century, is enough to confirm this.

I was looking into a Chinese history of twentieth century yesterday. The betrayals and wars within one nation is staggering. Bless their souls.

So I thought, how interesting it is also, to read that they eventually all ended up, apparently, being Communist too. That is except those who saw that corruption is more resonant in Communism, because of its denial of Christian doctrine.

I use the Chinese example because there are a lot of them, but you can go anywhere and find that people tried and failed, just in the same way, as communism did, when they abandoned the guiding principles of the Holy scriptures.

Some you think that the system is all corrupt, and that the existence of rightous money a fallacy. How do you know?

Most of you came straight out of the womb and laid on a hospital bed or incubator, and were given everything you have, ever since.

You don't want to acknowledge it seems to me, that the spiritual existence which grants material comfort, existed before man, and is good.

Why do you look so pessimistically at it all?

As I said: rightous money, rightous anything always wins.

Charlotte, Cate would never leave here. :( She is all too close to her family. Her daughter Allison is graduating from nursing school in December and getting married next May(which is another reason I work so hard...I get to pay for it all) B) I have tried to talk her into retiring in Arizona but there will always be something with her family to keep her here. If anything were to happen to my dear Cate  I would certainly head to Ireland. But she is a fighter that one, She would look the devil himself in the eye and tell him he has met his match. Strong minded, Strong willed, and down right beligerent, She is a force to be reckoned with.(much like you Charlotte) ;)
