WILLIE AND DANNY Volunteers Willie Fleming and Danny Doherty were brutally shot dead by the SAS while on active service on 6 December 1984. [Am] Try to sing some [C] songs of [G] glory [Am] Sing some songs of [C] peace [Am] But in the end it's the [C] same old [G] story They're [C] both so [G] hard to [Em] reach. [Am] People tell me they're [C] sick and [G] tired Of [Am] seeing this place run [C] down Well I say: [Am] Take your blindfold [C] off, you [G] hypocrite And [C] help us to get [G] off the [Em] ground. [chorus] Please say it isn't [Am] so [G] Why Willie and [C] Danny had to [G] go The reason's very [Am] clear [G] They're laying down their [C] lives for us year after [G] year. Seventy shots between their bodies Not one of those bullets missed For every trigger pulled that morning A volunteer will enlist For five long hours they left them lying there The priest was turned away So another step lower for those SAS bastards We'll never forget the day. The funerals were to prove their worthiness Thousands thronged the streets While those Borstel Boys hovered helplessly overhead The 'Ra came out to salute They emptied their magazines over each coffin Defiantly the crowd were sent So another day dawns and the guns will be out again Cause Willie and Danny had friends. |

Nearly, mo chara. I've ammended the chords, but bear in mind, I'm notorious for playing many different versions, so sometimes there are subtle changes. I've also left out some of the more "colourful" chords, I play a few suspended and diminished chords in there on ocassion, but you don't need them to get a good version. The core of the song is basically this. Hope it helps.
Gary Og [Am] Try to sing some [F] songs of glory [Am] Sing some songs of [G] peace [Am] But in the end it's the [F] same old story They're [G] both so hard to [E7] reach. [Am] People tell me they're [F] sick and tired Of [Am] seeing this place run [G] down Well I say: [Am] Take your blindfold [F] off, you hypocrite And [G] help us to get off the [E7] ground. [chorus] Please say it isn't [Am] so [G] Why Willie and [F] Danny had to [G] go The reason's very [Am] clear [G] They're laying down their [F] lives for us year after [G] year. Seventy shots between their bodies Not one of those bullets missed For every trigger pulled that morning A volunteer will enlist For five long hours they left them lying there The priest was turned away So another step lower for those SAS bastards We'll never forget the day. Nowhere tonight a chara, however, one question, why would I take the time to correct the music and words of these songs, if i was an imposter?
And for the record, I'm quite happy sitting down, thanx! |

And for the record, I'm quite happy sitting down, thanx! Gary Cruncher arranged for some tickets for the huns match for me (home league game) and your mate got them for me, what was his name. (I picked them up at the Brazen) ? Stumped ? :D |

The fella's name was Ryan, mo chara. Cruncher asked us to get them while we were drinking in McGlaughlins bar in Belfast. Is this satisfactory?

I'll jump in here and post the Gaelic lyrics to Amhrn na bhFiann, cuz I also want to know the chords of Gary's version. =)
Seo dhibh a chirde duan glaigh, Cathrimeach briomhar ceolmhar, r dtinte cnmh go buacach tid, 'S an spir go min raltogach Is fonnmhar faobhrach sinn chun gleo 'S go tinmhar gl roimh thocht do'n l F chinas chaomh na hoiche ar seol: Seo libh canadh Amhrn na bhFiann Sinne Firnna Fil A t f gheall ag irinn, buion dr slua Thar toinn do rinig chugainn, F mhid bheith saor. Sean tr r sinsir feasta N fhagfar f'n tiorn n fn tril Anocht a tham sa bhearna bhaoil, Le gean ar Ghaeil chun bis n saoil Le guna screach f lmhach na bpilar Seo libh canadh Amhrn na bhFiann. Cois bnta ridhe, ar rdaibh slibhe, Ba bhuachach r sinsir romhainn, Ag lmhach go tran f'n sr-bhrat sin T thuas sa ghaoith go seolta Ba dhchas riamh d'r gcine chidh Gan iompil siar imirt ir, 'S ag sil mar iad i gcoinne nmhad Seo libh, canadh Amhrn na bhFiann Sinne Firnna Fil A t f gheall ag irinn, buion dr slua Thar toinn do rinig chugainn, F mhid bheith saor. Btw Gary, may I ask what guitarlabel you're playing on? and also, did you receive my last mail? Sln go foill :) |

This is the very basic version. I've always felt that because this song is the national anthem, that it should be played basic and simple. no showing off or experimenting with this song. There are some who use different and certainly more chords in their versions, but as I said, I believe in keeping this one simple. |

I have a more "detailed" (complicated?) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) version somewhere at home. I could have a look for it, just in case someone is interested. But ... go raibh maith agat for this version! (For the Gaeilge afficionados: There's another lyrics version as Gaeilge with a slightly different (older) spelling. I have that one as well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ...just drop a line, and I'll have a look where it is... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ) |
