G'day. I have been searching for these bloody lyrics in over a fecking year. I can barely remember fragments of lines. Basically, it is a song to an occupying soldier asking what lies they were told...and shit like that...the last lines are leave your british guns and leave us all alone....or something along those lines.....I am hoping that some one has an idea what I am speaking about....if not I will have to try and listen to the song again with more correct words.

Sounds a bit along the lines of a soldiers return by the wolfe tones. Here are the lyrics for that, dunno if this is any help to u!

I went away to fight a war that small nations might be free
Got a soldiers guns and uniform to fight the enemy
I was trained to shoot my fellow before he got to me
And I danced with death in the mud and wept
And prayed my home to see.
Chorus:
So come over to me darling girl come here me Molly dear.
You are as welcome as the flowers in may you're welcome here to me.
No more I'll fire the musket shot or hear the cannon roar
I've done my time, now you'll be mine
I'm yours for ever more.
While in the trenches there I thought who starts these bloody -wars
And thought of these great Irishmen who died on these strange shores
Then a bomb did burst to the air it trust some shrapnel fire and blood
I escaped it then shot back at them and lay back in the mud.
Chorus:
While I was off in foreign lands, fighting other peoples' wars
Some gallant men were fighting here to free their native shore
You shot our leaders of 16 saw our city sacked and burned
Then you sent us in the Black and Tans to greet our home return.
Chorus:
I don't need your heroes welcome
I don't want your bugle call
No brass band no pipes and drums, no medal badge or star
But give me what you promised me when first I went to war
That's freedom for old Ireland and I'll go to fight no more.
Chorus

When you look for lyrics you should always start from Triskelle web site, it is very rich source of songs and information about them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ahem... Trikelle is a nice site, I won't deny it... but here at the Celtic Lyrics Collections we do have a pretty bunch of them as well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) And we're open to contribution to make the collection even larger!

Yeah! When I look for some lyrics I usually ask google about them (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) And it shows two places - Triskelle or this Collection.
Then usually I put lyrics of my favourite songs on my weblog. There are more songs there then my own notes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).

Hehe... know the feeling (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I tend to print lyrics and chord them for guitar... and the "wee collection of printed lyrics" has grown so much in the last months that it can hardly be carried around any more... Anyway, good to see Celtic Lyrics is still in the first google results (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Wish you all the best,

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) So we both tend to make back-ups of songs and chords. It's a very useful habit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yep, quite useful... I think I started printing them because I can't carry my laptop (if it can be called so, given how heavy it is) around everywhere I play... and even when I can, reading chords from the screen can be hard... after all, it's easier to squeeze a song, in a still readable format, in one side of a piece of paper than in a screen.

The only problem when the printed collection grows too much is finding the song I want to play... which reminds me, I still have to find a couple of tabs for tomorrow's folk club...

Wish you all the best,

Banshe

Well, it's quite funny to imagine someone playing and singing and watching on the laptop 's screen for chords or lirycs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif). A bit surrealistic view.
Can't you put those papers in some kind of ring binder in alphabetical order? It would make finding of desired one much simpler.

Well, I have them in some sort of binder in some sort of order... the fact that no one ever manages to find anything in there does not mean anything!!! It's ordered!!! It's just that other people's idea of order is not the same as mine!!

Anyway... It's even more surrealistic when you come on stage with guitar and chorded lyrics and such... and then just give yourself the starting note and sing with eyes closed, not a single look at the bunch of papers (did that tonight...), so... I guess it wouldn' t surprise anyone too much if I ended up bringing the laptop with me LOL

Well, I got the same problem (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). Everything around me is absolutely chaotic. But I can find that I need. But it is true disaster, then someone tries to find in my papers someting and usually make a real mess.

Nah, it's not chaos... it's the rest of the world that's chaotic, I'm sure! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Sounds interesting... must be a shocking sight in the morning for some people (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) I mean, everybody in the office (that is, in the whole floor... about four or five offices) heard about me and my guitar yesterday... i guess if someone came in with a sword for evenign training the whole building would find out hehe

Anyway... if you all will excuse me, I'll just go to collapse in bed in this bloody spanish heat that seems to have moved to England with me...

Wish you all the best (and a bit of cool air for those melting)

well, I like my chaos. It's a very useful weapon against those who wants to interefere in my life. They are usually completely lost.

I guess that people in my lab got used to my strange interest, unusual look and habits (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) but the sword is so, even for them a bit too much. But faces people in bus at six in the morning are worth seeing. Yous should try it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm sure that they are deeple wandering if they are dreaming or not.
Some people say that I have an elfish look, so a sword suits a lot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
So, sleep well and have a good, not too hot night (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
