Hello all,
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could explain the meaning of the lyrics to the song "The Mero". This is such a catchy tune, but I don't fully understand the lingo and other references in the song. Thanks.

:( It is truly sad when a cause which has nobly given up so many lives, itself dies

Hello again. Just an update, but the name of the requested song is "James Larkin". Paddy Reilly used both Jim and James to differentiate between two very similar songs. I have a version of the song you were asking about by the Dubliners. I can e-mail it to you if you like (I hope that's an acceptable practice through this forum). My e-mail address is [email protected]

Hi. Could anyone tell me what/whom "Tim Malloys" are in the song "Johnny Doyle"? I have a feeling its a nickname for Celtic fans, but really have little idea as to what the reference means. Thanks.

Hi. I've definately heard the version you've posted performed by Paddy Reilly. The version German... refers to is titled Jim Larkin, also by Paddy Reilly, but unfortunately I cannot remember the title of the version in question. I have a copy of it which I got from a friend many years ago (it too, was a cassette belonging to his father). I'm quite certain the tape was called "20 Greatest Ballads of Paddy Reilly", or something close to that.

if i'm not mistaken the song you are refering to is actually "barroom hero". if this is true, then you will find the lyrics on the DKM website. hope this helps.

Yes, I do believe the song in question is most certainly "Sniper's Promise". There is an excellent version performed by Sean Murphy.

Thanks for supplting the poem. It has certainly cleared it matter up for me. If I understand correctly the situation was this: Hearts needed at least a draw, but lost their game and ultimately the championship.

lots of looks, but no replies. I hope this hasn't lived up to its billing - a waste of space! (Here's the kicker)...don't be afraid (of reproach) to share your "experiences" with/of Dustin!!

In good humour,
 Sean.

I am grateful for the informative replies but I would really like to know what was the league situation at the time of "Albert Kidd". I realize this may be a question more suited to a Celtic site or something, but I thought that since I heard of the occasion through a song this would be the place to ask: "was the game a goal differtential situation, or was it a final game of the season scenario, or what?" That is what I meant by a request for the history behind this song - the lyrics were a nice touch because I learned more than I thought I knew. Many thanks for the feedback!!!

I hope I'm not annoying anyone with this one, but here goes...
I was in Ireland late last year and was introduced to Dustin by none other than a 32 year old cousin. I couldn't get over how ridiculous this character was, but I suppose that's part of his "appeal". Apparently, he was kicked off of The Den temporarily for cursing on T.V. Is this true? Anyway, I've got some of his tunes and when my kids heard him they thought he was great, even if they can't understand half of it. My request is for an explaination of the lyrics to "Funky Ford Cortina". For example, what does m.o.t. mean - I think when he says "a real mot in it" it's a pun, but I can't be sure. I realize this is an unusual request but I couldn't resist asking. By the way, when I went into Celtic Note in Dublin looking for Dustin's c.d.'s the sales staff were talking amongst themselves trying to figure out if Dustin was under "D" for Dustin or "T" for turkey in a very non-chalant manner which I couldn't help but see the humour in. I mean, we're talking about a bleedin' turkey here. I hope this isn't a waste of space! If anyone has any anecdotes about Dustin I'd like to hear them. Cheers.

I was wondering if anyone had the lyrics to charlie and the bhoys' "bigotry" song and if anyone could explain to me what all of the acronyms, etc. refer to. I'm in Canada so I don't quite get it. Also, I like the song Albert Kidd by the same group (it sounds so melancholic) but I would like a little more detail as to the history behind the song. Many thanks.

This is a great song - one of my favorites. I have two or three versions of it - the best one in my opinion is by Athenrye. However, I've yet to come across a studio version of this song. I think a band could have a lot of fun making a recording of this song in a studio by adding sound effects of the missles firing, exploding, and so on.
