There are two things I need to ask. First, does anyone have lyrics to a song called 'Eyes of the I.R.A.' and begins 'Eyes of the IRA, they are upon you, oh Maggy Thatcher dear'

The other thing is: what happened at Killashandra? In 'Black and Tans' there is a verse 'Tell her how the IRA made you run like hell away/ from the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra" - but I was unable to find what it was referring to.

The song "The eyes of the IRA" is by Billy Briggs.. Actually I don't know for sure, but when I found it it was tagged Billy Briggs. Add me on MSN if you want me to send it to you. =) [email protected]

And for the question about Killashandra..I'd really like to know what happened there also..
Anyone has to know something about it.

such skirmishes were numerous and not always recorded, but the song was wrote by stephen behan, who, through his contacts would probably have had a good contemporary oral history source to the story, that may now be lost.

Yesss, thank you I wish I had an oral history source right here beside me, but hell... Oh well, I suppose it must have been recorded in a local archive at Killashandra or something? Now I wish to go there and do a research even more...

Frank Aiken, was IRA commander of that area during that period, he had a reputation for ruthlessness with his enemies( unfortunately he turned free stater and with deValera and gerry boland murdered Irish republicans
during .ww2.) check out Aiken to find out about more about the IRA activities around that period and maybe killyshandra will come up.
