I'm new to the site so I thought I would take the time to introduce myself and maybe get to know all of you a little bit. My name is Jen, I'm 20 years old and from Canada. I'm a huge Celtic music fan, infact it's my favourite type of music, which is very odd here in Canada, especially at my age when all kids want to listen to is rap and that kind of stuff The Pogues are my favourite band ever! I think they totally rock! Shane MacGowan is truely the most gifted writer that I have ever come across! He's a misunderstood lyrical genious in my opinion. You know what they say, there's a fine line between insanity and genious.
Anyway, that's enough babbling on my part I'm very glad to be here and hope to engage in some discussion with all of you!
Cheers!
Jen

Thanks very much for the warm welcome everyone! Heather, thank you very much for your kind words. I've always prided myself on being different and not being afraid to do so.
I have every single Shane and Pogues song that I could find on my puter, and unfortunately only have 4 Pogues Cd's cuz that's all I can find in Canada. I have a friend in Scotland though, who I am going to ask to send me all the Cd's that I don't have. Hopefully that will work out!
I also enjoy some of the Canadian Celtic bands here such as Great Big Sea and Kilt.

Good Day to you all! I am new here so i want to introduce myself! I am from Croatia, i live in a subrub of Zagreb (which is the Capital of Croatia). I am studying Faculty Of Transport & Traffic Sciences. I listen to Irish music and i love it. We Croates have much in common with irish people. I like to drink Irish beer but it can be a little problem to get drunk from it because it`s a little bit expensive. I also think that Shane is the man! I am open to any contacts! I would like to talk with people who are from Ireland or know allot about it because I would like to learn more about me brothers! bye

I am interesting did anyone here heard about Croatian band that plays irish music, it`s called Belfast Food. They sing mosty songs writen and singed by Pogues but they also have their own songs. One of their best songs is called "Van iz grada". it`s a little bit hard to translate but it`s something like "get out from the city". you can visit their web : www.belfastfood.com!

Well Patrick I did`t know that I must admit. I drink it pretty cold because is pour into the pint that way in a pub. I understand that much of "basic truths" is turned up side down but we are divided by a couple of thousands of km! I would be very happy if other people who doesn`t have roots in croatia know so much about Croatia like I know about Ireland. A position on map would be pretty nice.. .... no hard fellings anyone

I think the important part is that you enjoy drinking Guiness

I distinctly from Dublin some bars that had Guinness "extra cold" or "ice cold" or "powerful cold beer faith and begorrah". The point anyway was that this draught was served several degrees cooler than normal. I remember trying it a few times but didn't really taste the difference. Maybe I should do a Pepsi Blind Challenge on the damned thing. Now some bars have the extra cold Guinness here in Finland, as well.
What I do hate though, is when ignorant lager-swilling bar wenches pour my pint in one draw, holding the pint straight and sometimes even leave room in the pint (as you would with a lager-pint). Where's the professional pride, I ask you?
