I once almost persuaded a friend of mine to get a tattoo of Bobby Sands on his arm, even though he isn't the slightest bit Republican. He was pissed drunk and all on for getting a tattoo (as you do when your pissed), but when we got him to the tattooist they wouldn't do it because he had drink on him. Something to do with thin blood being dangerous to draw.
I'll probably get a tattoo later this year, definately next year. Probably something celtic, nothing Republican.

Celtic crosses can be very detailed. Just finding the 'one' that suits you is the difficult part.
I grew up about 65 miles from Milwaukee. The tatoo that I got is actually the 'logo' for Milwaukees 'IrishFest'(The largest festival in the mid-west). I might just get a cross for my left arm.(providing Cate wouldnt mind)

I dont like tatoos unless they're needed for any magic or religios use...
but if I would have to choose a tatoo, I would choose the celtic animal drawing "an gabar" (correct me if I've written it not correctly)

Got lots of tattoos but only two Irish ones now. I have a leprechaun throwing a bomb with Fightin' Irish under it. My other is a 4 leaf clover (shamrock) on my right hand with my wifes initials in it.
I have pics but Im not sure how big they are or I'd post them.

Im tempted to get a Shamrock with a Pint of Guinness under it. Not sure how'd it would look but it could work - My pal got Celtic symbols all up the top of his arm last week. I was going to get one with a Scottish flag on the left and an Irish flag at the right crossing each other i think that would also look cool.

If I was to get a tattoo, surely I'd have a Celtic cross on my shoulder blade. But I'm not into tattoo so much. So I wear my celtic crosses and harp around my neck.
Irelands_son, if you want to, you can send them those pictures, I will resize them for you.

I've been contemplating getting a tat on my shoulder, the outline of the Six Counties colored green, white and orange. Problem is white color doesn't last in tattoos.

Jesus, Sean!
Okay, I've actually been thinking about this tattoo thing. My new idea is an Armalite AR-180 with a shamrock coming from the barrel. It's a nod to Chairman Mao who said that political power only grows from the barrel of a gun, as in this case the United Ireland (shamrock) is doing.

Werewolf, sorry, but it had remind me about the Hippie anti-war actions - pushing the flowers into the soldiers' guns' barrelrs..
If I shall ever deceide to make a republican tatoo I'll think of NI wall graffity...

That's the beauty of it. Tats with political or otherwise strong meaning are risky... I mean, if I want to be a respectable businessman I probably won't want my employers to see a very provocative tat on me, that could seriously damage my career (Remember that I'm Finnish, here, having a sauna with your work mates is not that uncommon and it's very hard to hide a tattoo in a situation like that). So a tattoo that can be understood in different ways might be very useful. People could think that the tattoo is about peace, but those in the know would recognize the symbolism.

what's with the Irish Harp?
It is not provocative and it's still republican (in my opinion)

Fianna Fil use the harp, fuck me if that's seen as Republican.
Get the Role Of Honour written on your back. Now
that would hurt...

so Guinness uses the Harp as its Symbol, and its on the Irish Euro
Sean
Feb 20 2004, 11:21 AM
That's the answer! A good ole pint of uncle Arthur's milk - that's a tatoo suitable for sauna and anywhere too!

So? Guinness and the Euro coin aren't symbols of Irish Republicanism, are they now?

Look, I'm Finnish... As a people right up there with the great drinkers, the Irish and the Russians. Do I really want to underline that image by having a tattoo of an alcoholic beverage?

Hi everybody,
Every year for the last four or five, arround the time of my birthday, I think of getting a green celtic interlaced shamrock on my shoulder, but up to now, I have always suddenly remembered that I hate the sight of needles or anything related to them, so I always say "I'll do it next year". May be I'll finally get it this time... I found a model I really like.
A friend of mine got a tiny celtic cross on her hip, and it looks really nice, too. She's getting one of these knotted-patterns arround her ankle soon, so I may go with her and get mine :-)
Sln,

No way, girls with tattoos are hot, specially celtic rings round the arm and ankle.
Obviously a heart with "I Luv Mum" on it with a ships anchor hanging off it is a little bit of a turn off...
