Anyone listen to Wolfe Tones??? IF so what is your favorite song(s)???
Chucky Armagh

Yes I see them play often. Joe McDonnell is my favourite, it was written by Brian Warfield 2 hours after Joe died on hunger strike in 1981.

Yeah, they're great. Though I prefer some of the newer bands like Eire Og and Shebeen, etc.

Yes I like Or S Do Bheatha Bhaile.
However as I'm not a gaelic speaker perhaps someone can tell me what it's about.
My mother told me she used to sing it in national school back in the 40's and 50's but she doesn't know.
Thanks

Well there's two versions, a Jacobite version and a version written by Padraig Pearse. I'm sure the one your mother sang was the Padraig Pearse version. I'm not familiar with the Jacobite version.
Anyway the Padraig Pearse version is a rallying call to all Irishmen fighting with the British Army in Europe to return home and fight for the freedom of Ireland.

What a man this Padraig Pearse ! (as I think about it some Irish rebels should be included in the 'hot men' list)
Well back to the point, is there anyone on this forum who doesn't listen to the Wolfe Tones ?
Anyway, personally, I'm fond of Erin go bragh, Rifles of the IRA, Joe Mc Donnell, Come out ye black and tans, and well many others actually...

We were performing with Cruachan in St.Peterbourg 2 years ago.
The guitarist/singer of the band was walkin through the St.Pet streets and had found a musical shop with very cheap russian Distortion amp. And bought it, of course...
Well, the soundcheck starts... A girl is singin Ride On... And at second verse this distortion guy joins singin and playin'...
Shite! Men are like kids - the adore their new toys!
The girl, her keyboard and even drums sounds had disapeared!
Only roaring guitar and the guy growlin "Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide Ooooooon"...

Preferential treatment! You'd think we'd be safe from that kind of crap in this forum, but no... it seems some people still are more equal than others.
To make up for this you'll have to send photos, autographed, to everyone registered here.

My faves are Rifles of the IRA, Rockall, Row in the town, etc.
Joe McDonnell makes me cry
BTW, what were the hunger strikers thinking, a country that arrests people without crime isnt gonna give a crap about a handfull of people starving to death (not insulting them, just curious)

Jeremiah,
in some way their death has done more for the cause than if Thatcher had given in their demands. You cannot but consider how important their death was from a mediatic point of view : suddenly the world was looking at Ireland. Sadly and cynically though it may seem...

My favourite song (ever!) is "Fighting men of Crossmaglen". It really has the power. I like also "Rifles of the IRA".
