Dia daoibh!
Demat deoc'h!
Hi!

Does anybody have some lyrics in bretonic language (Brezhoneg)?
Since I am trying to learn it, some lyrics would be helpful
(as Gaelic ones were for me while learning Irish...)

From artists like Alan Stivell, Dan ar braz, Tri yann, Moyland, etc...

Sln go fill...

Great... well I listened to "Tri martolod" by Alan Stivell...
...now I can't get it out of my head... and as Anna (the fiddle of "An Taisdeal", my duo)
got her celtic harp now, we'll do this song, too...

Tri martolod live 1972

"Kenavo ar c'henta!"
"Bye until next time!"

Translation:
I'm Waiting

I was waiting, waiting for a long time
In the dark shadow of grey towers
In the dark shadow of grey towers

In the dark shadow of rain towers
You will see me waiting forever
You will see me waiting forever

One day it will come back
Over the seas, over the lands
Over the lands, over the seas

To steal me on the trunks
It will come back full of spray
In the dark shadow of the black towers

Will come back the blue wind
To breathe my wounded heart

I will be pulled away by its blow
Far away by its stream to another land

I will be pulled away by its breath
Far away by its stream, wherever it wants

Wherever it wants, far away from this world
Between the sea and the stars

Could someone help??? What is the meaning of "To steal me on the trunks" in german? I found the translation on the net, but I am not sure, if it's right.

Fionas
hey, I downloaded me something from Alan Stivell, but cant translate it blink.gif :

J'ai rencontr ce matin
Devant la haie de mon champ
Une troupe de marins
D'ouvriers, de paysans
O allez vous, camarades
Avec vos fusils chargs
Nous tendrons des embuscades
Viens rejoindre notre arme

La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent la mouette et l'ajonc !
La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent Fougres et Clisson !

O allez vous, camarades

Ma mie dit que c'est folie
D'aller faire la guerre au Francs
Mais je dis que c'est folie
D'tre enchan plus longtemps

La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent la mouette et l'ajonc !
La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent Fougres et Clisson !

Ma mie dit que c'est folie
D'aller faire la guerre au Francs
Mais je dis que c'est folie
D'tre enchan plus longtemps
Elle aura bien de la peine
Pour lever les enfants
Elle aura bien de la peine
Car je m'en vais pour longtemps

La voil, la blanche hermine !

La voil, la blanche hermine !

Elle aura bien de la peine
Pour lever les enfants
Elle aura bien de la peine

Je viendrai la nuit noire
Tant que la guerre durera
Comme les femmes en noir
Triste et seule elle m'attendra

La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent la mouette et l'ajonc !
La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent Fougres et Clisson !

Je viendrai la nuit noire
Tant que la guerre durera
Comme les femmes en noir
Triste et seule elle m'attendra
Et sans doute pense-t-elle
Que je suis en draison
De la voir. mon coeur se serre
L-bas devant la maison

La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent la mouette et l'ajonc !
La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent Fougres et Clisson !

Et sans doute pense-t-elle
Que je suis en draison
De la voir mon coeur se serre
L-bas devant la maison
Et si je meurs la guerre
Pourra-t-elle me pardonner
D'avoir prfr ma terre
A l'amour qu'elle me donnait ?

La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent la mouette et l'ajonc !
La voil, la blanche hermine !
Vivent Fougres et Clisson !

Et si je meurs la guerre
Pourra-t-elle me pardonner

does anyone have the translation of it? rolleyes.gif

That's French. Give me some time, i'll translate it
Charlotte
I met this morning
in front of my field
a troop of sailors
of workers and peasants
where are you going comrades
With your rifles ready?
We're going to wait in ambush
Come and join our army

Here is the white ermine
Long live the seagull and the gorse
Here is the white ermine
Long live Fougres and Clisson

where are you going comrades
With your rifles ready?
We're going to wait in ambush
Come and join our army
My love says it is madness
To go at war against the French
But I say it is madness
To remain under these chains any longer

Here is the white ermine
Long live the seagull and the gorse
Here is the white ermine
Long live Fougres and Clisson

My love says it is madness
To go at war against the French
But I say it is madness
To remain under these chains any longer
She'll have some difficulties
To raise our children
She'll have some difficulties
As I'm leaving for a long time

Here is the white ermine
Long live the seagull and the gorse
Here is the white ermine
Long live Fougres and Clisson

She'll have some difficulties
To raise our children
She'll have some difficulties
As I'm leaving for a long time
I will come during the dark night
as war will lasts
and as the women in black
Sad and Lonely she'll wait for me

Here is the white ermine
Long live the seagull and the gorse
Here is the white ermine
Long live Fougres and Clisson

I will come during the dark night
as war will lasts
and as the women in black
Sad and Lonely she'll wait for me
And probably does she think
That I am unreasonnable
To try to see her. My heart is in pain
There in front of the house

Here is the white ermine
Long live the seagull and the gorse
Here is the white ermine
Long live Fougres and Clisson

And probably does she think
That I am unreasonnable
To try to see her. My heart is in pain
There in front of the house
And if I die at war
Will she ever forgive me
To have prefered my land
Rather than the love she was giving to me

Here is the white ermine
Long live the seagull and the gorse
Here is the white ermine
Long live Fougres and Clisson

And if I die at war
Will she ever forgive me
To have prefered my land
Rather than the love she was giving to me
I met this morning
in front of my field

of workers and peasants

Here is the white ermine
Long live the seagull and the gorse

Here is the translation. More or less wacko.gif
Tara
That's great! Thank you!

Chalotte, Do you know someone who can translate from breton into french or english???

We've got some problems about the translation of

"D'am laerezh war an treujo
'Teuio en-dro karget a fru
E skeud teval an tourio du"

Tara
Charlotte
I'm sorry but I'm afraid I don't know anyone who speaks breton

Hm... I was just about to try a translation, as I noticed that it is part
of "Gortoz a ran"... wink.gif hehe....

The passage with the idiom "To steal me on the trunks":

D'am laerezh war an treujo
"To steal me on the trunks"

'Teuio en-dro karget a fru
"It will come back full of spray"

E skeud teval an tourio du
"In the dark shadow of the grey towers"

I know from the Irish language, that celtic languages are full of
metaphors and idioms. So it is sometimes not easy to preserve
the meaning of a text.

If someone has an idea what "To steal me on the trunks" could mean...
...let us know... wink.gif

Hm, Tara: another approach would be to post it in the forum on Kervarker...
A great resource for learning Brezhoneg, btw. if some of the others are interested in doing so...

Ok, kenavo a c'henta
Tara
It's all right!

We've found a translation on Kervarker in german!!!!!

There was a big mistake in writing about the word "trejo". It's a misspelling in breton. It was meant "trezo", which will be pronounced as "trejo".

The meaning is "threshold" and not "trunks".

Kenavo,

Tara
Roidsear
Aahhh... this should explain...

Sometimes there's just a little tweak that gives a sentence a whole new meaning... wink.gif

Hehe....

Kenavo!

Oh sorry,
I am little desoriented. wacko.gif
The song An hini a garan (or An hani a garan?)

Merci
B.
Charlotte
I'm afraid no.
BUt as I have the CD, I had a look in the cover and it gives the translation of one sentence "Celle que j'aime est partie gagner son pain dans un pays lointain" ("The one I love is gone to earn her bread in a country far away", literally). I guess it gives an idea of the general meaning of the song.
But maybe Roidsear who is learning Brezhoneg might be able to translate it all for us? If you do not have the lyrics, I'll send them to you on private message as it is copyrighted).
