Full Version: Encounter With Loyalists

Werewolf
Here's a little story about a strange day some time ago.

I was working in a shop in downtown Helsinki, Finland. Immediately outside the shop window is an open air serving area of a bar, which usually doesn't draw huge crowds even on bright sunny days. That morning when I was working I began to hear singing outside, voices in English. Closer inspection revealed that camped out the terrace of the bar were around 8 guys in Glentoran jerseys and scarves, with a huge Ulster flag on the wall, come to support their team against Finnish Haka for the Champions League qualifiers. So I went back in and listened to them go through several football songs, just hoping they'd get fed up and leave.

They didn't. Instead they launched into a song of which only the chorus line carried through to my shop. These guys were singing "Fuck Bobby Sands". Well, not on my watch. I reached into my backpack and pulled out one of my "IRA - Undefeated Army" bumper stickers (big ones, available at the Sinn Fein bookstore for 2 a piece) and walked out. About two meters from the little fence of the terrace I found a traffic light post, and proceeded to paste my sticker on it. I turned to face the guys, made eye contact with one of them to get his attention and pointedly tapped the sticker a few times.

Not wanting to get into a fight (well, a beating, 8 to 1) on company time I then got back indoors, and watched through the window as the dismayed loyalists struggled to remove the sticker from the post. After considerable difficulty they managed to tear most of it off, but at that time they had forgotten which store I walked into. Shortly after this they packed up their stuff and left.

I take great delight in this event. The guys sitting there, singing their songs, and suddenly out of the blue in the middle of Finland for fucks sake comes this guy who sticks and IRA sticker in their faces. Had the sides been more evenly matched I would have liked to give them a little concert of my favourite songs.

Well done Werewolf

I would have done something similar.

You now have first hand experience of these idiots. There are many more like them.

It is a shame that sport has to be used to as a political weapon when it should be used as something to celebrate or have fun.

But that is how the situation is in Ulster. It is like a big them and us rivalry between two teams.

Hh, I would have liked to see their faces! Must have been one hell of laugh...
The fuckers think they can to do their thing undisturbed everywhere! No chance with our bunch around of course!

Before this event my friends had asked me several times why I carried the IRA stickers with me. I think I've made my point, you just never know when they'll come in handy. Take heed my brothers, always keep some on you.

2Werevolf - There is a need of the situation 8:1 would never repeat again. Find 4 (at least) good friends who respect your oppinion and keep trainin' to sing "Off the Dublin in the Green" or "Come out ye black'n'tan". Who gonna sing louder? I bet for your company 8)))

Actually, since this happened, around a dozen of my friends have at one time or another expressed their regret that I didn't call them to the scene at the time. With hindsight, I think I could have roused a crew of 6-8 people in about half an hour, all willing to participate. If not by singing "Black and Tans" then by banging unionist heads to the rhythm.

Great! That's what we do here!..

Sean, just had a listen to your MP3's on your site, http://www.belfast.ru

This is good stuff a chara! Celtic-Rooskie-Rock! I never thought I'd ever hear a wah guitar in a version of Lannigan's Ball! The solo in that's class, sounds really like the Horslips, or Roisin Dubh by Thin Lizzy. Good shit man.

When you's comin to Dublin!
