Something will have to be worked out for Ireland. As long as the Island i partitioned there will be problems.
Let Britain govern her island, let Ireland govern its island. The British have been reigning over ireland(or parts) from the time of William the Conqueror to today in some form. 950 years has been long enough. Give Ireland the North. |

Ireland already has the north thanks. Give Ireland back the south.
Oh, and the British have been ruling Ireland since we were first called British - more than 2,000 years. Even despite the invasion of the Gaels. |

Hi Lads!
I just saw "Michael Collins" and now I ask myself... if the provisional IRA are the outcome of the guys who killed Collins?? Or what happened to them after De Valera became president?? Would be nice to hear some facts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Thank you, Erin go Bragh! |

Would be nice to hear some facts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The Provos came about after a schism between the IRA in Dublin and operatives in Belfast. The former became the OIRA (Official Irish Republican Army) and their Belfast counterparts the PIRA (Provisional IRA). The film is questionable for its historical accuracy. The PIRA didn't come into existence until the 1960's and has little to do with the political aims of either Collins or De Valera, but is rather the result of a complex political division regarding the role of socialism in Irish politics, the role of abstentionism and recognition of the Northern Irish statelet. A fine text that addresses some of these issues is Northern Ireland: 1945 to the Present by Sabine Wichert. It is not extensive on the particulars of paramilitary politics throughout the Troubles but is a fine beginners reference on the politics and struggle in Northern Ireland. De Valera is not portrayed in a particularly good light in the film. If anyone is to blame for the division it is in fact Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith. Whether or not their decision to cappitulate to Churchill's terms in London was prudent in regards to the viability of Irish forces in the Anglo-Irish war is debatable. |

De Valera is not portrayed in a particularly good light in the film. If anyone is to blame for the division it is in fact Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith. It is widely taught in History in Irish schools that Dev knowing that the total liberation of ireland from britain was impossible and futile sent collins over so collins would get the blame for not securing a 32 county ireland and not Dev. As such an influential figure in Irish politics at the time why didnt he go with collins to sign this? I dont think the film is too far off the button with its portrayal of De Valera( i do agree however it is far from historically accurate as it has been dramatised highly) |

i was trying to find the page where the guy was saying the british are not bad. they have their own country leave ireland alone. my brother is really into the real IRA and it's got me a bit into it. some people say that their terroist, the terroist are the british. Ireland are happy to keep to themselves but the british invaded.
i hope the real IRA kills as many british soldiers as possible then they might leave them alone. But if that did happen i suppose blair would turn to his faggot friend george bush for help. The real IRA needs more people like me and more of them to outnumber the bastards. do you mind if i swear? jerry adams sold out like collins fuck them. setanta, the IRA are not terroist it's the britsh. they are just defending what's their's. and if no one wants to get killd get the fuck out of ireland. |

"Pish. You are a snake and a traitor to your country."
I think just calling him 'British' would cover that. |

In the same way that calling someone a murdering imperialist capitalist stooge could be shortened to
"You're a yank" ? Not necessarilly. Most 'Murdering Imperialist Capitalistic Stooges mentioned on this site are actually 'BRITISH' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) ... Next? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |
