I hope I'm not annoying anyone with this one, but here goes...
I was in Ireland late last year and was introduced to Dustin by none other than a 32 year old cousin. I couldn't get over how ridiculous this character was, but I suppose that's part of his "appeal". Apparently, he was kicked off of The Den temporarily for cursing on T.V. Is this true? Anyway, I've got some of his tunes and when my kids heard him they thought he was great, even if they can't understand half of it. My request is for an explaination of the lyrics to "Funky Ford Cortina". For example, what does m.o.t. mean - I think when he says "a real mot in it" it's a pun, but I can't be sure. I realize this is an unusual request but I couldn't resist asking. By the way, when I went into Celtic Note in Dublin looking for Dustin's c.d.'s the sales staff were talking amongst themselves trying to figure out if Dustin was under "D" for Dustin or "T" for turkey in a very non-chalant manner which I couldn't help but see the humour in. I mean, we're talking about a bleedin' turkey here. I hope this isn't a waste of space! If anyone has any anecdotes about Dustin I'd like to hear them. Cheers. |

lots of looks, but no replies. I hope this hasn't lived up to its billing - a waste of space! (Here's the kicker)...don't be afraid (of reproach) to share your "experiences" with/of Dustin!!
In good humour, Sean. |

Hi
I had never heard of Dustin till I read this post and you now have me looking at loads of links ........ :D ........ so funny the comments I'm finding. As yet I havent found said song but can tell you that a car needs an M.O.T certificate to prove it is roadworthy (renewed every year) and this is what that refers to. Will keep you posted on my findings ..................... :D |

"Mot" is Dublin slang for one's girlfriend/wife, e.g. "Me and the mot were locked last night"
Hope this helps Phil |

MOT stands for Ministry Of Transport in the British Isles. All cars have to pass MOT tests annually. These are mechanical safety and emissions tests.
So you can imagine the Funky Ford Cortina trying to pass the MOT test...... |

Hi. I am Irish(from Limerick) and I love dustin, even at 20. Dustin is something most of the country grew up with, or sat down with the kiddies for a while. He made moves on any woman within 10 feet, insulted the culchies(of which I am a proud member, it means people from the country) and told our president that he wanted the job. He is an instituion that is bigger then Elvis, over here anyway. What ever age you are, you love him. Its a bit of the child kept alive. Also, noe of us ever admit he's a puppet.
