I just wanted to say how delighted I was to find this site.

English by birth, now resident in Jacksonville, FL, I always shared the same, biased view of the Irish that has been passed down through generations - but two things happened to change my view of that, I discovered the wonder of the Pogues, and I discovered the glory of the University of Notre Dame.

By seeing the Pogues on a regular basis while living just outside London I met several very good friends who started taking me to Celtic games in Glasgow. Although I was introduced to many of the great rebel songs on this site, it's great to finally fill in the gaps in the lyrics - the site itself paints a rich tapestry of Irish history, and the rape of a nation by my 'kin'.

As far as Notre Dame goes, the spirituality of that place is a magic that goes beyond anything I've ever experienced. I am NOT Irish, but I feel an affinity that goes beyond anything I've ever felt for England - I guess I've always rooted for the underdog!

I contribute to a website covering Notre Dame athletics, if you are interested check us out at:

NDinJax,
if we can make a Republican out of you, we'll be very happy ;) . Welcome on the forum.

And this confirmes what I think : support also goes through music and culture more generally (even through Molly Malone and Danny Boy, would you believe it??).

PS : have no idea what Notre Dame is (except the Parisian Cathedral), and no time to check, so I'll see that later
