Come al ye lads draw near to me that i be not forsaken for this day is lost the "Jeannie C" and my living has been taken and I'll go to sea no more. We set out that day in the bright sunlight the same as any other my son and I and old john Price in a boat named for my mother and I'll go to sea no more. I'm sure ye know what the fishing has been it's been scarce and hard and cruel but that day by God we sure caught cod and we sang and laughed like fools and I'll go to sea no more. I'll never know what we struck that day but strike we did like thunder John Price gave sigh and went over-side now forever he has gone under and I'll go to sea no more. My God I cried as she went down that ship was like no other my father he built her when I was nine and he gained her for my mother and I'll go to sea no more. Sure I can have another built in the boat shop by the river but I would not like the keel they built like the one the waves roll over and I'll go to sea no more. Come al ye lads draw near to me that i be not forsaken for this day is lost the "Jeannie C" and my living has been taken and I'll go to sea no more. This page has been viewed 4366 times |
