Folks, I've added a bit of new stuff to the site. In the audio downloads section I've included a few unreleased songs and one or two rare ones that are difficult to get elsewhere. Have a look and tell me what you think.

Hi gary, was i far off the chords? i see the exiles are playing a few gigs in failte in glasgow, is it tickets only or just a case of turning up?
[/quote]

The chording is different from the way I play it, but in no way is it wrong. It still works well a chara, and if thats the way you like it then keep at it.

As far as the gigs in Failte go, I don't think there is anything coming up, unless I have been sacked (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) . I reckon at least Nov/Dec before we'll be back there. And as Armagh said, it's all free!!

I'll be on holisay now for a wee while but will be back in the swing of things come September, although I will be playing in Derry Aug 4th and 5th in "The Oak" and "The Dungloe" as part of the Feile. For more info drop me a pm and I'll get you more details.

I'm doing this off the top of my head with no guitar. The chords are right I think, but their placement might be slightly off. Just mess around until it feels right.

QUOTE(Matt Kavanah @ Jul 19 2006, 04:22 PM) *

AChairde,

Would someone please add in the chords for this song...

All the best,

Matt Kavanah

Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Russian Roulette
Moving Hearts

Em/////C/////////////////////D///////////////////Em
They dropped the bomb in '45 to end the world war,
////C//////////////////////////D////////////////////Em
No-one had ever seen such a terrible sight before,
/////C//////////////////////D///////////////////////////////Em
The world looked on with eyes wide to see where it might lead,
/////C//////////////////D/////////////////////Em
The politics of power, they passed around their seed,
/////////D/////////////////////////////////////////////
It was a time to remember, we never can forget,
Em//////////////////C//////////////////D////////////////////Em
They were playin' Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Russian Roulette.

They arose like the saviours of our modern human race,
With radiation haloes, that hung about their face,
With the key to the sure-cure, the treatment of our ills,
A hot-shot of cobalt, and a pocket-full of pills,
Speaking always of the enemy, who lurked across the sea,
While they crept in among us like a carrier disease.

Deep down inside the bunkers of the concrete and the lead,
Einstein's disciples working steadily ahead,
Making heavy metal power-plants to fire the city lights,
All you can hear in the underground is the humming through the night,
And the walls of tight security, circle all around,
Where they spill out their poison and bury it in the ground.

Holed up in the harbours hidden secretly away,
War-heads and submarines await to make their play,
The military masterminds improve on their design,
The soldiers get all doped up and stumble through the lines,
While the spills into the rivers get carried out by the tide,
They call this security but we're not satisfied.

Our statesmen and leaders and politicians pay,
Quick to heed the hand that feeds, they're careful what they say,
They call out experts to assure us, to wave their magic wands,
This is the power of the future, And the future marches on,
And they call in their favours, all their political gains,
While the spills fill the rivers and settle in the plains.

They've caused the death of millions, that's their stock and trade,
They will be afflicted by the fallout that they've made,
They've sealed their own inevitable doom, it must surely come,
Not even the moons of Jupiter will be far enough away to run,
When this earth that they've assaulted, begins to turn around,
And the unavoidable gravity, sucks them to the ground.

I know the minds behind them, they are riddled full of holes,
Not to be trusted with their hands at the controls,
Their eyesight it is twisted by the glory of their careers,
The heaped praise and flattery is music to their ears,
To listen to them talk about how it hasn't happened yet's,
Like playing Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Russian Roulette.

There is a wee fault with the downloading at the moment, but Declan assures me it will be rectified soon. So keep checking back, it 's worth the wait. Don't forget to pass it on to everyone you know, after all it's free.

Hello folks, how's everyone doing? A good friend of mine and a very talented musician to boot, Declan McLaughlin from Derry has asked me to pass this stuff on to everyone I know, so here goes.

Declan has just released his new cd called "No Big Deal". It's an album completely made up of Declan's own original material and if anyone ever listens to anything I say (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) , then believe me when I tell you this stuff is top notch. And here's the real kicker, he's giving it away FREE (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) . Yes FREE!!!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) You can download it from his website, www.declanmclaughlin.com , and I guarantee you'll enjoy this. There's no catch, it's all FREE (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) and in fact the only problem is now people will expect us all to do it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) . Something that I am happy to tell you is in the pipeline for me soon enough as well.

All the best and happy listening

FAO Spacekitten.

Firstly let me start by saying that nowhere in TW's post does he say that "The Loughall Ambush" was written by Eire Og. He makes the statement in his second post " here is another song by Eire Og" (which incidentally is one of our songs). At no place on this website, or another website, or anywhere else in print or audio will you be able to back up your allegation.

I do not , nor does any other band member claim to write songs that we have not. In fact your mother is credited on the back cover of my cd "Live in Glasgow" as the author of the song Pearse Jordan. If I wanted to dupe people into thinking I wrote the song, why would I credit your mother with the song?

It also seems that you misunderstand how the whole process of copyright works. I cannot steal, even if I wanted to, the copyright of a song that does not belong to me. On no ocassion have I attempted to steal copyright, again another baseless accusation on your part.

The song "Go on Home British Soldiers" was in fact written by a fella named Tommy Skelly who played with the band "South Dublin Union", a very nice man whom I had the pleasure of playing with in Glasgow on a couple of occassions. Again, nowhere have I claimed I wrote this song.

On a final note, let me finish by saying that I have nothing but respect for the "Irish Brigade", their music and songs included. I know each member of the band personally and have done so for a number of years. However, I won't allow you to spread unfounded and un-true allegations against me and my former band mates. Especially without a hint of proof or evidence to back it up.

Best Wishes

Gary Og

Don't recall singing that Armagh, but you never know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I reckon later in the year before the exiles get their album out.

The thing to do is make a wee demo. 2 or 3 songs, you then have something to convince people with. You also get an idea of what you really sound like. ie: what you sound like to other people. Get that and punt it round the venues and pubs. You'll get a start somewhere!!!

Failing that give me a shout and I'll try and sort you something.

All the best

I'm in the key of Bm, using Am Scale(Capo 2nd fret), I think the first note of the solo should be A (1st string, 5th fret), in fact it is a slide note(I have no guitar here I'm having to imagine it), so it's a slide note from G(1st string 3rd fret) to the A note.

I am wanting to take it to the next level ie pubs clubs etc does any1 have any suggestions and tips they could give me thank.

So GC are you based in Glasgow? Is it rebel music you play? Do you play solo/band? Do you have home recording equipment(for the purposes of a demo)?

Getting gigs is not as easy as it sounds. There are so few places playing that type of music now, that there are not many free slots to move into. Get back to me on these points and we'll see what we can work out.

Right Matt, here goes. This was written about 7/8(could be wrong, that's just a guess) years ago by myself and Colm(lead guitar player with Eire Og). The song is pretty self-explanatory.

Diarmuid O'Neill

Em/////////////////////////////D//////////////////////Em//////////////D
1. The news came through last Tuesday night, to paralyse the truth,
Em////////////////////D//////////C////D///////////Em
A man lay dead in London, gunned down in his youth.
Em///////////////D/////Em//////////////// D
A bitter hail of stories, telling what went on,
Em/////////////////////////D/////////////C////D///////////Em
But the blood upon the pavements told a story of it's own

2. A little house in Hammersmith invaded in the night.
With a hundred in their death squads, to be sure and get it right
Assembled in the darkness with their hatred un-concealed
To murder Dairmuid O'Neill

3. Now Major's calling up his men to praise a job well done,
With special commendations for those that held the guns
Arrest a dozen Irishmen to help the story stick
The coldness of you people makes me sick

4. So be careful now you papermen, the British leaders say,
You know that we can never hope to beat the IRA
So be careful while you write your lies, for our people must not see,
Just how we hold Ireland un-free.

bridge
C//////////////////////D////////////////Em
For England your crimes are not over
C///////////////////////D////////////////Em
You will not have the blood you crave
C////////////////////////D//////////////G//////////Em
You will never break our will, with your Shoot-To-Kill
///////C//////////////D///////////////Em
And our people will not be your slaves

Repeat 2nd verse to finish

To hear the song go to www.irishrebelmusic.co.uk click Music of Mark O'Neill ( bass player with Partisan another former band of mine), it's on page 2. Happy listening and playing.

Anbhoy, stick up the words of the songs you want and I'll fill in the chords. I think a new thread for each song is the best way.

gary would you be able to post you the willie and danny solo you play? if its not to much bother please.

TAL

I don't read music/stave notation or TAB. I play everything by ear and I've said before somewhere here, I don't even know the names of most of the chords I play. So explaining a solo on here is difficult for me. How much help do you need? We could maybe work it out together by pm if you are stuck at bits, but if it's the whole solo note for note you want I don't know really how to explain it, providing I can even remember how I played it back then.

Matt, all verses are the same, so follow this and ye'll be grand.

All the best

D/ / / / /[D/C#]/Bm/ / G/ / / / /A / / / / D
I went to see a legend just the other night
Bm / / / / / / / /A / / / / / /G / / / / / / / A/
At the Yankee Stadium, underneath the lights.
Bm / / / / / // / A / / / / / / / /G/ / / / / / /A / / / / /D
I heard a man speaking after years and years in jail.
D / / / / / /[D/C#] Bm / / / / / / /G / / / / A / / / / D
His name it was Mandela and he came to tell his tale.

The crowd they cheered him loudly, ah, but then the silence fell
As he spoke about the hard years in a South African cell.

And though he was free, his heart was feelin' the pain,
For his country and his people were still a part of that shame.

He said he hoped that we would join him and walk down freedom's path,
And these roads would be the hardest, oh, but they would be the last.

And to join our hands together so that we might be as one,
And to bring ourselves to the cause so his battle could be won.

I went home to bed that evening, went to sleep and I had a dream.
I was standing in the pouring rain, in an Irish field of green.

And all around the headstones were the martyrs of the past.
I stood there in silence, and they spoke to me at last.

"Kevin Barry is my name, and I died in a cell.
They wanted the names of my comrades, oh, but this I would not tell."

"And I am Roger Casement. I was shot in London town
For bringing German rifles to the lonely Banna Strand."

"James Connolly is my name. The working people are my life.
When they shot me down in Kilmainham Gaol with strife."

"And I am Padraic Pearse. I was shot down by the foe.
I read the proclamation at the steps of the GPO."

And the last voice that I heard says, "My name is Bobby Sands,
And it's good to hear Mandela's words a-ringin' through the land.

"I want to hear them in Belfast, in Derry and Tyrone.
Maybe then those English soldiers will know it's time to go home."

I woke up in the morning. I remembered them all.
And who would believe that they'd knocked down the Berlin Wall?

And I said "Mandela, could this really be?
Maybe now we will see Ireland reunited and free.
Maybe now we will see Ireland reunited and free."l

Forgot all about this recording (http://www.geocities.com/markoneillrebpage8/index.htm) "Patriot Game". Came across it again by accident. It was never released
and is part of a recording by an old band I played in for a while called Partisan. The chord structure is
different, but I like the way it goes. I'll show you below.

Come [D] all you young [G]reb[D]els and [A]list while I [D]sing, G, D,

For [D/C#]love of one's [Bm]cou[A]ntry[G] is a ter[A]rible t[Bm]hing. ,A,G

It [A]banishes [Bm]fe[A]ar[G] with the spe[A}ed of a f[Bm]lame.A,G

And m[A]akes us all [G]part [D]of the [A]patriot [D]game.

Alright, I got these lyrics from Bik McFarlane, so if anyone disagrees with them, take it up with him. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

n [F] Sackville Street the [Bb] curfew drove the [C] restless [F] out of sight,
The [Bb] Black and Tans marched [F] up and [Dm] down, the [Gm] moon shone cold and [Bb] bright,

The [F] shot was like a [Bb] whip crack pulled the [C] first man off his [F] feet,
He [Bb] died on bloody [F] cobble[Dm]stones while his [Gm] comrades combed the [Bb] street.
They [F] called up rein[Bb]forcements, pulled the [C] people from their [F] beds,
They were [Bb] screaming [F] Get the [Dm] bastard!, but its [Gm] fear was in their [Bb] heads,

They found him in a cellar, he was only seventeen,
Fighting for his country: Dying for the green.
The sergeant dragged him by the hair and beat him to the ground,
Into this young mans body he emptied every round,

Come out and take a look, he cried as he marched his troops away,
They went in stony silence such a prize to have today!
Some knelt and prayed beside him, ah but its too late anyhow,
They said he was a rebel then and hes a hero now,

In 66 this country sang the praises of the dead,
We didnt call them rebels then we used patriot instead,
On every household TV screen we saw how hard they fought,
How they spilled their lifes blood and how freedom had been bought.

The garden gates were opened up to silent motorcades,
Cannons boomed and flags unfurled and solemn wreaths were laid,
Prayers for those departed were called for loud and clear,
For those who had been outlawed ah but that was another year

The veterans stood up stiff and proud, their white hair ruled the wind,
With their pride pinned to their gaberdine and thoughts upon their friends,
And bitter wounds burst open, the scars of history,
Went flying into our faces in stark reality,
Just up the road from Sackville Street ah but things are different now,
They said he was a rebel then but hes a hero now.

Along the Falls Road soldiers push - their glances left and right,
Kids of the English working class soldiers overnight,
Tossed into the melting pot of bloody war and strife,
Never understanding and fearing for their lives.

Outside the Glenn Road Brewery a bomb takes two away,
The bombers work is over; hes finished for the day,
The terrorist or the dreamer: the savage or the brave?
It depends who's vote you're trying to catch, or who's face you're trying to save.

Theres tea and cakes in Downing Street, theres whispers in the halls,
Lets move to cure Rhodesia (?) now our backs are to the wall.
Theres panic down in Leinster House where words are seldom scarce,
Send someone to Glasnevin quick to remember Padraig Pearse!

Once more His crucifixion, it seems a lie somehow
They said he was a rebel then but hes a hero now
Once more His crucifixion, it seems a lie somehow
They said he was a rebel then but hes a hero now
But hes a hero now

Many thanks, scottishgizmo for your kind post. I do indeed remember the Irish dancers doing their bit in the Brazen before the bands, although it seems so long ago. How long ago are we really talking here? I have the biggest holes in my memory for reasons I won't mention, but I'm thinking must be close to 10 years ago, eh?

I note you sadi in your post, your sister danced when she was younger. Does that mean she no longer does? Such a shame if thats the case, as all the dancers I remember where excellent, and you should never give up your culture a chara. It's what makes us who we are!

All the best!

You can hear songs of that exact nature being sung at Ibrox park every second weekend. Tribalism, triumphalism, sectarianism, call it what you may, but they do exist! Everyone who has ever asked me to explain why "The Troubles" are the way they are, I tell them to look at the songs of the conflict. I believe this is the best way to truly understand the nature of the conflict. With regards to Ireland, you only have to compare the songs of both sides to know who is in the right, and it certainly isn't the murdering, raping, pillaging, colonising, imperialist, capitalist f*ckpigs of the British establishment. Then again, I would say that, wouldn't I.

As far as finding these songs, you are on your own kid. I don't want to be responsible for subjecting you to such misguided hatred, and complete sectarian bile, but they are out there, although, you have been warned. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
