If only they'd hear the song everywhere they went. I just hope it was loud enough and recognizeable to them. |

The Black Watch, or Royal Highland Regiment is a Scottish infantry regiment in the British Army. The Highlanders were first recruited to serve the Crown in 1720's, and the current Black Watch is a traditional successor of those troops. I have not found mention of this Regiment's involvement in the 1916 Rising, as I believed the Regiment to have been heavily involved in the decisive battles of WWI at the time, but the Regiment has been deployed on several tours in North of Ireland after the 1970's, when BA made the decision to include (previously excluded) Scottish regiments in the rotation. During these tours the Scots demonstrated their bias towards the Catholic/Nationalist population, hardly surprisingly considering the origins of the Protestant/Unionist people. |

You are the president who spent the most of his (stolen) legacy on his lazy bottom doing nothing... And so on, and so on... What a nice Curriculum Vitae you got, ol bushy... I think we all agree that by now the American people should know better. After all, we all know the saying in Tennessee, well, Texas, but maybe also in Tennessee: "Fool me once, shame on shame on you. Fool me you can't get fooled again." Doesn't that just sum it up rather nicely? Here's hoping the American people can't get fooled again. |

QUOTE(Shadow @ Aug 23 2004, 09:11 AM) I think you've been listening to too much Irish propganda, talking about "those evil Brits in Guantanamo", a place run by the American military with not a Brit in sight. Assuming you, Shadow, are a real person and not just Lancashire in one of his many phony aliases, you'll notice my reply was to "IRAbastard" who claims to be American. Thus, reference to "your troops" would be American troops, who, as you correctly pointed out, man the Guantanamo Bay compound named Camp X-Ray. I wasn't suggesting X-ray is being run by the Brits, I was just interested in hearing "IRAbastard"'s view on concentration camps in general. Frankly, I don't even know where the hell you got the idea I though Guantanamo Bay is a Brit garrison. I have my facts straight. Anyway, while we are on the topic. How do you feel about killing in general? I mean, you're accusing the IRA of murdering pregnant women, but is it equally wrong when Loyalist terrorists do it? Or the British government/army? |

You guys remember I told you Bush and Kerry are members of the same fraternity and blood brothers in the traditional sense? Now, obviously these people want to have as many of their guys in high places as possible, right? We have to ask ourselves why Bush is making such an idiot of himself? I mean, sure he's stupid, no doubt about it, but why are his advisors and puppetmasters letting him make it known? The only reason I can think of is he's being used to draw attention away from something or someone. Among the less sinister alternatives is that he's being used as a "wingman" for Kerry, you know, the guy you stand next to to make yourself look better. I mean, compared to Bush, this Kerry guy has got to be better, right? No matter how bad HE is. What do we actually know about Kerry? |

Middle ages I'm not sure about, probably would prefer a hand-and-a-half "war sword" or bastard sword as these broadswords are sometimes called. Something with a cutting edge a point for thrusting. I kinda like this "Sword of the Keltoi". My favourite would have to be a rapier, perhaps this "Spanish Caress" one. An elegant weapon for a more civilized time. |

QUOTE(Patrick @ Jul 8 2004, 03:59 AM) knowing werewolf like we do, I would say three bottles before he starts out the evening :D Not tequila, that stuff does horrible things to me. But I am reminded of a time in New York when I was visiting a friend of mine. His friends, unaccustomed to the Finnish drinking habits (matched only by the Russians and the Irish), cautioned me when I was at a bodega chosing drinks for the evening before we hit the bars. I had selected two 40oz. bottles of beer, and these guys though that it was way, way too much for me. Come on, that's in the ballpark of 2,5 liters, and we had four hours ahead of us? About par, I'd say. |

Thanks everyone! As it turned out, a friend of mine wanted to take me out for a beer (that's what he said, A beer), but as the evening progressed more and more people started gathering and before you knew it we were at a club, dancing the night away. I have no idea what were in those drinks but they certainly did the trick. After 3,5 hours of sleep I'm at work again, and certainly feel a year older. Thanks! |

It's a Celtic bouzouki you have then? There's been several discussions on this forum about celtic songs with guitar chords, maybe these will help you out? The reason why people haven't commented on your request might be that not too many people are familiar with the Celtic application of a bouzouki and do not therefore wish to venture an opinion into this matter. :D |

The biggest (and the only international) football club in Finland, HJK, is scheduled to play Linfield FC on 14th of July. That'll be fun, bunch of their supporters will probably hit Finland any time between the 12th and the game night, still high and drunk from celebrating their 12th and now bent on singing their songs on my streets, like they did the last time. Happiness. Well, this time I'll know they're coming and I'll be prepared. I'm gonna round up my mates and we'll have something better than IRA-stickers for them this time. Researching Linfield and their fans lead me to a website by a fan of the club. Check it out, it's pretty entertaining. The under-privileged author welcomes us to the site declaring that the site is "devoted to promote the Protestant Cultrue" (sic) and goes on to invite us to have a look at his heritage "which [he is] proud to be a part off" (sic). Bad grammar and spelling mistakes I can forgive, I mean as a non-native speaker I'm guilty of both myself, but if you're making a website dedicated for feverish dreams of national/cultural supremacy, shouldn't you at least try to get your own language straight? |

Alright Chucky, nice to know we share another topic of interest! The book to read about the Skull and Bones is a recent volume by journalist Alexandra Robbins called "Secrets of the Tomb: Skull and Bones, The Ivy League, and the hidden paths of power". You can find this book at Amazon. Another book worthy of attention is "Secret Societies and their power in the 20th century" published under the pseudonym Jan van Helsing, although this latter book might technically still be illegal within the European Union (for alleged prejudice against an ethnic group). You'll find tons of websites about the society, some more credible than the others, by punching in the words in your favourite search engine. As with all good conspiracies, misinformation abounds, and as you go through the material you will constantly have to cross check the information from other sources. The books mentioned above are good places to start, but also Conspiracy Archive and a peak at the US ruling class. There's also an online article by Alexandra Robbins. Suffice it to say at this point that the Society seems to be a stepping stone in the Bilderberg group, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission. |

You guys know something pretty funny about the US presidential elections? We all know about the Freemasons, the secret society whose members are supposed to help a Brother above all else? And some of you may have seen the movie "Skulls"? While the movie is fundamentally misinformed, it is based on a real organization. Unlike the Greek fraternities in most American universities, Yale has a number of very old and very powerful "secret" senior societies. The top three are known as Skull and Bones, Scroll and Key and Wolf's Head. These organizations recruit seniors (well, juniors at the time) that they think will make their mark in the world, people destined for great things. Once you join one of these societies, the people who are already graduated use their influence to make sure you reach those great things, and thus increase the influence of the society. Both President George W. Bush (as was his father, and grandfather) and Senator John Kerry are members of the Skull and Bones. With two brother Bonesmen "battling" for the office there is only one sure loser: the American people. |

For those who might not know it: the road in front of the General Post Office in Dublin was named Sackville Street at the time of the Easter Rising in 1916, and is now named O'Connell Street after Daniel O'Connell. |

Never heard the song but will definitely look it up. The last statement of James Connolly, however, follows: QUOTE To the Field General Court Martial, held at Dublin Castle, on May 9th, 1916: I do not wish to make any defence except against charges of wanton cruelty to prisoners. These trifling allegations that have been made, if they record facts that really happened deal only with the almost unavoidable incidents of a hurried uprising against long established authority, and nowhere show evidence of set purpose to wantonly injure unarmed persons. We went out to break the connection between this country and the British Empire, and to establish an Irish Republic. We believed that the call we then issued to the people of Ireland, was a nobler call, in a holier cause, than any call issued to them during this war, having any connection with the war. We succeeded in proving that Irishmen are ready to die endeavouring to win for Ireland those national rights which the British Government has been asking them to die to win for Belgium. As long as that remains the case, the cause of Irish freedom is safe. Believing that the British Government has no right in Ireland, never had any right in Ireland, and never can have any right in Ireland, the presence, in any one generation of Irishmen, of even a respectable minority, ready to die to affirm that truth, makes that Government for ever a usurpation and a crime against human progress. I personally thank God that I have lived to see the day when thousands of Irish men and boys, and hundreds of Irish women and girls, were ready to affirm that truth, and to attest it with their lives if need be. JAMES CONNOLLY, Commandant-General, Dublin Division, Army of the Irish Republic |

I distinctly from Dublin some bars that had Guinness "extra cold" or "ice cold" or "powerful cold beer faith and begorrah". The point anyway was that this draught was served several degrees cooler than normal. I remember trying it a few times but didn't really taste the difference. Maybe I should do a Pepsi Blind Challenge on the damned thing. Now some bars have the extra cold Guinness here in Finland, as well. What I do hate though, is when ignorant lager-swilling bar wenches pour my pint in one draw, holding the pint straight and sometimes even leave room in the pint (as you would with a lager-pint). Where's the professional pride, I ask you? |

Christophe, defence forces like these are known as a carde-based field armies and are fairly common in Europe. At least Switzerland, Finland and Sweden come to mind immidiately. There is a small core of professional officers (the cadres) who during war time serve as leaders in company or battallion size units and/or larger formations, but the troops, NCOs and some of the officers are trained civilians. In most countries the military service is around one year, with periodic refresher training during the following years. Switzerland has a one year military service, plus one week refresher course every year until the age of 50. The difference between the Swiss system and that of say... Finland, is that the Swiss have their weapons and equipment at home and can thus organize in small independent militia-type units in case the country is overrun. I like this system, and to me it seems like a very effective deterrent for invasion. Then again, given the amounts of alcohol consumed in Finland and the national character of Finns (especially when they're drunk), maybe it's a good thing every adult male does not have an assault rifle at home. On a related note, this system does not necessarily prevent the use of heavier weapons. For example the Finnish army has specialist troops, heavy artillery, tanks, APCs, combat ships, fighters and helicopters. With the exception of the last two, all these functions are filled with trained reservists. Myself, I'm a MP squad leader, ranking the equivalent of a sergeant in most armies of the world. |
