G C G D
By a lonely prison wall I heard a young girl calling
G C D
Michael they have taken you away
G C G D
For you stole trivaliants corn so the young might see the morn
Am D G
Now a prison ship lies waitning in the bay

G C G Em
Low lye the fileds of Athenrye
G D
Where once we watched the small free-birds fly
G C
Our love was on the wing
G D
We had dreams and songs to sing
Am D G
its so lonely round the fields of Athenrye

I DONT KNOW WHY IT APPEARS LIKE THIS...ITS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES IV POSTED CHORDS!!!

THE CHORDS ARE MATCHED TO EACH LINE...IM AFRIAD YOU'LL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHEN TO CHANGE THE CHORDS YOURSELF!!!

ALL THE BEST!!!

QUOTE(Derrylad @ Aug 30 2006, 08:30 AM) *

i been trying to get these for ages but to no avail but i will stick the full lyrics of the song up and hope someone answerws my call.

G D
The people of Ireland they morn once again
G D
A young Volunteer from the Creggen he came
G C
On the 14th December the year 94
G C D7 G
Pol Edward Kinsella passses theough heavens door.

G D
Kinsella Kinsella remember him well
G D
This young volunteer they put him through hell
G C
And remember the price these young volunteers pay
G C D7 G
To ensure that our country has freedom one day

With armed guards they kept him chained to his bed
Although he was dying no compassion they showed him
When they paraded his body no respect did they show
How these thugs sleep at night christ i never will know.

You left behind Cathy and Michella so young
Danny your brothers and your sister Renawn
Your friends in the Crumlin and those dark H Block cells
We will all meet in heaven wjhile the brits go to hell

They refused Pat McLaughlin compassionate parole
For his dying mother wouldn't let him console
They laughed in the faces of the Louges in their grief
But their deeds will unite us and see their defeat

The Derry Brigade by the body it stood
As a final salute to a comerade they lost
But the memory young Pol will have ever more
It will help us remove this Brit scum from our shore.

Repeat verse one and chorus.

I hope this helps its the 1st time iv heard it+its Shebeen iv got doing it so it may differ but it seems generally simple...a nice song 2!

Hi gary, was i far off the chords? i see the exiles are playing a few gigs in failte in glasgow, is it tickets only or just a case of turning up?
[/quote]

The chording is different from the way I play it, but in no way is it wrong. It still works well a chara, and if thats the way you like it then keep at it.

As far as the gigs in Failte go, I don't think there is anything coming up, unless I have been sacked (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) . I reckon at least Nov/Dec before we'll be back there. And as Armagh said, it's all free!!

Ah rite thanx alot...do you guys have a regular slot somewhere? im from Coatbridge and our local band are The Foggy Dew who are really good...alot of us wld like 2 see you have a gig here!!!

Hi Gary, if you're out there...

I like the way you do 'Only Our Rivers Run Free" with the 'F' 'C'...'Dm?' thing happening. Could you list the chords that you play? Thanks!
As a side bar, do you have any new CDs? Where can I get them?

Here are the lyrics:
This is the way I play this song, and i tend to stick to the Christy Moore version, hope this helps...
C When apples still G grow in C November,
When F blossoms still C grow from each G tree,
When F leaves are still green in C December,
It's Dm then that our Em land will be Am free.
I F wander the hills and C valleys,
And F still through my sorrow I Em see,
A F land that has never known C freedom,
And Dm only her Em rivers run Am free.

I drink to the death of her manhood
Those men who'd rather have died
Than to live in the cold chains of bondage
To bring back their rights where denied.
Oh, where are you now that we need you,
What burns where the flame used to be
Are you gone like the snow of last winter
And will only our rivers run free?

How sweet is life, but we're crying
How mellow the wine, but we're dry.
How fragrant the rose, but it's dying
How gentle the wind, but it sighs.
What good is in youth when it's aging?
What good is in eyes that can't see?
Whem there's sorrow in sunshine and flowers
And still only our rivers run free.

Sorry about the quality of the reply its my first attempt at adding chords 2 a request...I also use a capo on the 3rd fret...but thats a personal choice as it suites my voice...hope it helps!
